Description

. (N0 MO eL) w. 0. LBAVITT. v HANDLE FOR METALLIC VBSSELS. No. 412,763;
Patented Oct. 15, 1889.
tuu
WV ILLIAM O. LEAVITT,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF NORWAY, MAINE.
HANDLE FOR METALLIC VESSELS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 412,763, dated otober 15, 1889.
Application filed Jul 29, 1889- a citizen of the UnitedStates of America, re-
siding at Norway, in the county of Oxford and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handles for Metallic Vessels, of which the following, is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in handles for sheet-metal ware,'such as washboilers, &c.; and it consists in securing on the under edge of the ordinary sheet-metal handle a handle of wood, which serves as a non-conductor for the heat "and at the same time prevents cutting the hand when the articl'es are weighty.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved handle attached to a metallic vessel. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal-central section. Fig. 3 is a View showing the hand-piece partly slid on the metal. Fig. 4 is a vertical section.
A designates a sheet-metal blank, having its edges formed with beads 1 2 to strengthen or stiffen the handle. On the lower edge of this metal blank is arranged a wooden handpiece B, consisting of a piece of wood formed to conveniently be grasped by the hand, and having a central longitudinal hole 3 through it. From this hole leading to the surface of the hand-piece is a slit 4. After the metal blank is Serial No. 318,998. (No model.)
formed the wooden hand-piece is slipped on it by inserting one end of the metal blankin the slit of the Wooden hand-piece with the bead in the central hole thereof. The metal blank may then be bent down at the ends, substantially as shown, and the ends formed to be secured to the surface of the vessel, as usual. The bent parts of the metal handle prevent the hand-piece from endwise movement, and the handpiece is held in its relation to the metal part by the bead. Additional fastening may be provided by a pin 5, project-ed through the parts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The handle for metallic vessels herein described, consisting of a metal handle A, having a bead formed on its lower edge and a wooden hand-piece B, formed with a central longitudinal hole and a slit leading from the said hole to the surface of the hand-piece to hold the bead and 'embrace the body of the metal, substantially as specified.
In Witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in the presence of two attesting witnesses.
WILLIAM C. LEAVITT.
