Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARNOLD RIMPAN, OF BRUNSWICK, GERMANY.
COMPOSITION FOR KINDLING FIRES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,925, dated September 10, 1889.
Application filed April 13 1889.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARNOLD RIMPAN, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Brunswick, in the Duchy of Brunswick, German Empire, have invented a new and useful Composition of Matter to be Used for Kindling Fires, of which the following is a specification.
My composition consists, essentially, of natural peat, as foundin the peat-bogs of Germany and elsewhere, which is impregnated in a peculiar manner, as hereinafter described, with crude resin and naphtha. The peat, after being dug up, is first dried in the sun or by artificial heat. It is then pulverized and sifted, after which the dry and sifted peatpowder is packed into a basket made of finemesh wire -cloth or finely-perforated sheet metal, which is immersed in a cauldron containing a mixture of the following ingredients, in about the proportions stated, by weight: crude resin, ninety-eight and one-half parts; naphtha, one part; Frankfort or other mineral black, one-half part. These ingredients are thoroughly mixed together in a cauldron and heated to a temperature of about 176 Fahrenheit, after which the foraminated bas- Serial No. 307,168. (No specimens.)
ket containing the pulverized peat is dipped into the hot and fluid mixture and left therein long enough to cause its contents to become thoroughlyimpregnated. It is then removed, cooled 0ff, and after removing the solidified and impregnated peat from the basket it is broken up into fragments of suitable size for use in kindling fires.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. The herein-described composition for kindling fires, composed of dried and pulvcrized peatimpregnated with a mixture of resin, naphtha, and mineral black, in about the proportions stated, solidified and broken up into lumps of suitable size, substantially as set forth.
2. The herein described fuel compound, consisting of peat, resin, naphtha, and mineral black solidified and broken into lumps.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
ARNOLD RIMPAN.
Witnesses:
PAUL FISCHER, B. R01.
