ELIAS .I. FRIEDLAND, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
NECKSCARF-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 410,732, dated September 10, 1889.
Application filed November 8, 1888, Serial No. 290,316. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELIAs J. FEIEDLAND, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckscarf-Fasteners, of Which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a scarf-fastener for supporting the scarf in connection with a turned-down collar.
The object of the invention is to provide a scarf-fastenerof this character which may be detached from the scarf, so that the latter may be used with a standing collar by the application of means for that purpose.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a rear elevation of a neckscarf provided with this improved fastener. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of this improved neckscarffastener detached from the head of the scarf. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section of a neckscarf provided with said fastener.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures.
This improved neckscarf-fastener is designed for use in connection with a scarf-head A, having two pocket-openings cm at its up per corners instead of one such opening, as is usual in scarflheads as ordinarily constructed.
The scarf-fastener is composed of a flat center piece, 0 of stiff card-board or similar material, provided with an eyeleted opening 6 in its lower part, two curved arms or fingers C, also of card-board, sheet metal, or other similar material, hinged to said center piece at its upper part, and a cord-loop D passed through said eyelet, each end of the cord being connected to one of said arms. The cord of the loop is preferably elastic. A metallic loop D for engaging the collar-button is preferably connected to the lower end of the cord-loop.
In the use of this fastener the fingers O are pushed upward through the pockets a a of the head A and project laterally from. the upper corners thereof, as shown in Fig. 1. The scarf is then adjusted to the neck, the fingers C being pushed under the turned down flaps of the collar, and the looped end of the cord D or the metallic loop D is adjusted over the collar-button.
I claim as my invention- 1. A detachable fastener for a necksoarf, consisting of a flat center piece provided with an eyeleted opening in its lower part, arms pivoted to said center piece at its upper part, and a looped elastic cord passed through said eyeleted opening and having its ends con- 11 ected to said arms, substantially as described.
2. A detachable fastener for a neckscarf, consisting of a flat center piece provided With an eyeletcd opening in its lower part, arms pivoted to said center piece at its upper part, a looped elastic cord passed through said eyeleted opening and having its ends connected to said arms, and a metallic collar-button loop at the end of. said looped cord, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ELIAS J. FRIEDLAND.
