Description
W. We. BRILHART.
SPECTACLE GASB. i l
Patented Sept (No Model.)
UNITED STATES WILLIAM W. BRILIIART, or INDIANA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SPECTACLE-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,234, dated september a,l 1889.
Application filed December 3, 1888. Serial No. 292,479.r (No 1nodel.) i i .To all w/ Lom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. BRILIIART,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Indiana, in the county of Indiana and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements-in Spectacle-Cases; and I do` declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of this invention and is a cross-section. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing one side. Fig. 3 is a section taken lengthwise of the case.
This invention has relation to improvements in spectacle-cases; and it consists in the construction andnovel combination of parts, as
. hereinafter set forth.
Two pairs of spectacles are often required by a person, one pair for reading and the other for seeing at a distance; but objection is found to the two pairs, as two cases areA required, whichordinarily take up too much roomin the pocket. To obviate this diculty I provide the present invention, wherein two pairs of spectacles may be iaccommodated in one case, occupying no greater room in the pocket than the single case of ordinary manufacture.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the outer shell or casing, which may be of any suitable material; andB is a lon gitndinal partition of thin material secured within and dividing the shell into two receptacles (D).
` The shell on each side has the central longitudinal swell D to accommodate the bows of the spectacles, and the depressed portions E at the sides of the swell are designed to fit closely down to the frame of the spectacles. By this formation the case `@clinics but little room in the pocket. The partition B,beingja PATENT OFFICE.
single sheet of thin metalor other suit-able material7 takes but very litt-le spaceiu the" shell and should have its end projecting above i `the open end of the case, as shown, anda soft j lining a may be secured to the two sides of the partition to protect the glasses. The sides of the shell may be diierently colored, and one side may be provided with a small protuberance, usually slotted, and provided with a catch or pin o, for attachment to the lining of the pocket. I i
I-Iaving described my claim is-.-
In aA spectacle-case, the shell having `the i 6o i,
longitudinal swell portions, the depressed portions at the sides there/of, and` thelongitudi` nal partition having the soft lining and havinvention, what I` ses ing the extended end, substantially as speci-x` fied.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence of two witnesses. i
