To al whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM DARKER, Jr., of the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Covered Skirt-firm and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a longitudinal outside View of a piece of my improved covered wire. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.

This invention consists in the covering of skirtavireby Weaving,instead ot' by plaiting or braiding, as has heretofore been the common practice, thereby effecting great economy in the covering process by a great saving in the quantity of yarn required to produce a good covering, and in the power required to drive the necessary machinery, and making as good if not a superior article.

The most practical method of producing and applying the Woven covering is by means of a circular loom, the wire passing through the center of the loom, the Warp-yarns being arranged in a circular form around it, and the sheds being crossed by movements in a direction radial to the said center, and the llingyarn being carried through them by the circular movement of a shuttle or carrier of suitable construction, the Warp-yarns being arranged lengthwise of the Wire A, and the weft running round it, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, in which the warp-yarns are represented of gray tint, and indicated by theletters ca, and the weft-yarn represented of pink tint, and indicated by the letters b b. The covering may, however, be woven upon the Wire by looms of other form.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent as a new manufacture, is-

Skrt-wire With a woven covering, substantially as-herein described.
