E. J. SNOW.
SHEET MUSIC SUPPORT FOR PIANO FORTES.
No. 401,662. Patented Apr. 16, 1889.
N. PETERS. Pliclvlflhagnpher. Washington. D4 0 UNITED STATES EVERETT JAMES SNOW,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF PENOBSCOT, MAINE.
SHEET-MUSIC SUPPORT FOR PIANO-FORTES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 401,662, dated April 16, 1889.
Application filed June 23, 1887.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, EVERETT JAMES SNOW, of Penobscot, in the county of Hancock, of the State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sheet-Music Supports for Piano-Fortes; and I do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which Figure 1 is a front elevation, Fig. 2 a rear view, Fig. 3 a longitudinal and median section, and Fig. 4: a transverse and median section, of a music-holder of my invention, the nature of which is defined in the claims hereinafter presented. Fig. 5 is a transverse section taken through one of the spring-clips C.
In the said drawings, A denotes a flat bar, of wood or other suitable material, having two long slots, at, within it lengthwise of it and in a straight line with each other, each slot extending from near the middle of the bar to near one end of it. At its middle the bar is contracted in width, or provided with a neck, h, to enter and lit into a spring-clip, B, c011- sisting of a flat piece, I), of wood, and a spring, 0, of sheet metal, fixed thereto and formed as represented, such spring serving to hold the bar A in engagement with the clip and to allow of such bar being drawn out of connection with it. The piece his to be fastened to the name-board or other suitable part of a piano-forte, so as to be directly in front of a performer while playing on the instrument. Furthermore, there are to the barA two movable spring-clips, 0, each of which consists of Serial No. 242,252. (No model.)
a slide, d, and a spring, 6, of sheet metal, the said spring being attached to the slide on its front face, at or near the outer end thereof, the spring being arranged and formed and bearing on the slide in manner as represented. The slide has a straight tongue, f, projecting from it into and through the slot a. A plate, g, of metal, wider than the slot, is fastened to the tongue by screws 6 and serves to keep the clip in connection with the slotted bar.
From the above it will be seen that the two clips 0 may be moved on the bar either toward or away from each other in order to adjust them to a book or sheet of music to be held open or supported by them by being extended between their slides and springs.
I claim 1. The bar A, having the longitudinal slots at a and neck h, in combination with the springclips C 0, located in said slots, and the springclip B, located at the neck, as set forth.
2. The bar A, having the longitudinal slots at a and the neck It, in combination with the clips 0 0, consisting of the slides d d, having the tongues f f, the plates 9 g, and the springs e e, and the clip B, consisting of the piece of wood I) and the spring 0, the clips 0 0 being located at the slots at a and the clip B at the neck h, as set forth.
EVERETT JAMES SNOW".
