DEVICE FOR HOLDING TILE-SETTINGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 400,076, dated March 26, 1889.
Application filed May 5, 1888. Serial No. 272,935. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, if may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALFRED GREENAWAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Holding Tile-Settings, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to tile-holders for lireplaces; and it has for its object to provide a device of this character whereby the tiles will be securely retained in place, and which will furthermore possess advantages in point of simplicity, ineXpensiveness,` durability, and general efficiency.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a section of a tile-holder embodying Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sec-:-v
my invention. tional view. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view. Fig. a is a perspective view of a modification. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of said modification.
' the casing, having nuts b upon the screwthreaded ends b at each side of the sides a.
C designates a centrally-disposed longitudinal strip, preferably of sheet metal and cut away at its sides, as shown at c, said sides being bent to form right-angular projections c', which project into the cement for holding the tiles and retain it within the casing.
In the modification illustrated in Figs. a and l 5 I have provided a centrally-disposed raised strip, D, bent to form angular portions d, which rest upon thebottom a and are secured thereto.
E designates a series of transverse raised strips, which are secured at their centers to the strip D and at their ends to the sides c, whereby the latter are strengthened and braced.
The construction and advantages of my invention will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which it appertains.
The cement vis placed Within the holder and secu red therein by the central strip and crossbraces, and the tiles are secured upon the outer surface of the cement and fit closely against the sides of the casing, thereby presentinga neat and attractive appearance.
I claim as my inventionl. In a tile-holder for fire-places, the combination, with the casing comprising the back and the sides bent at an angle thereto, of a longitudinal strip secured along said back and provided with projecting portions, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
i 2. In a tile-holder for lire-places, the combination, with the casing, of a longitudinal strip secured along the back of the casing, said strip comprising the central secured portion and the angular projections `extending therefrom, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In a tile-holder for fire-places, the combination, with the casing adapted to be disposed at the edge of the lire-place and comprising the back and the sides bent at an angle to the latter, of a longitudinal strip having its main portion secured to. said back and provided with angular projecting portions, and transverse retaining-lnaces secured to the sides, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED GREENAWAY.
