IMPROVEMENT IN TRUCKS FOR PULLING STONE.
Specitication forming partof Letters Patent No. 39,838, dated September 8, 1863 autedated July 26, 1863.
To all whom, t may concern.-
Be it known that I, GILBERT L. SHELDON,
' exact description ofthe saine, reference being 'had to the accompanying drawing, making a part ot' this specitication, in which the ligure is a perspective view of my invention, show in g the truck in the act of pulling a stone.
The nature and peculiar characteristics oi' my invention will be readily understood from the drawing.
A is a pulley, mounted, as represented, on a shaft upon the frame K K K K K K, which latter is attached to the single cross piece H. The pulley A is operated by ineans ot' the rope or chain D passing through the small pulley shown, and to which the team is attached, as shown inthe figure.
B is a chain, both ends of which are at! tached to the shaft ot' the pulley A, one end on each side ot' the said pulley, in such a man ner as to equalize the strain on the pulleyshaft. The chain B is made tast below to the and pawl a. After the stone is sufficiently pulled or lifted, the team is then attached to the truck and the stone is conveyed from the field.
'lhe merits of my invention are as follows: Simplicity and cheapness of construction and operation, also eiectiveness and durabilitythe purchase obtained being Very considerable, and the strain or wear and tear on the truck being for the most part in direct line with its greatest strength.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, ist l. The combination on the single bar H of the frame K K K K K K and single pulley A with its accompanying shaft and ratchet a', substantially in the manner and t'or the purposes described.
2. The` use ot' the chain B, in combination with the singlepulley A, when said chain is attached on each side of the said pulley, substanti-ally as represented, and for the purpose described.
