SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 397,567, dated February 12, 1889.
Application filed April 21, 1886. Renewed May 4, 1888. Serial No. 272,868. (No model.)
To call 1127107121 it may concern:
Be it known that I, ED\VARD O. ROBERTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Broadford, in the county of Smyth and State of Virginiaflravc invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tilting Drawers; and I do declare the followin to. be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a front elevation broken away and partly in section. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.
This invention has relation to cases of tilting drawers, and is an improvement upon the device shown and described in Letters Patent No. 288,861, granted to me on the 20th day of November, 1883.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the casing, which is designed to contain several tilting drawers arranged one above the other, three being shown in the figures, lettered respectively B, U, and D. The end boards, E, of said draw.- ers have cireularly-curved lmveredges, F, and upper edges, G, the radius of curvature being shorter in the case of the lower drawers, so that they will pass the upper and lower margins, V V, of the openings in the front of the case readily and neatly, and so that the said drawers will not interfere when closed back into the casing.
The drawers are supported by arms H H I I, and J J, of increasing length, which are secured to the ends of said drawers at increasingdistances therefrom, supports m m being interposed between the arms and the upper drawers to secure the proper intervals, as shown. These arms are contained in recesses at the sides of the casing. The lower ends of these arms are pivoted on bolts K L at opposite sides of the casing, near the bottom of the latter, said bolts bein supported by the side walls of the casing and the interior ledges, b b, which are arranged near the front of said casing, the arms ll H, I I, and .T .I extending backward an d upward oblique- 1y to the rear of the drawers, to which portion they are secured. The shorter arms, H H, are secured to the lower drawers, which have greater curvature, and the longer arms are attached to the higher drawers. lVashers N are placed between the pivoted ends of the arms on the bolts K and L.
The front of the casing is vertical, and when the drawers are open they are level and held in position by the engagement of their arms with the front of the casing.
, Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, 1s-
The combination, with the casing A, provided with the side recesses, and the vertical front having openin therein, the ledges Z) I), and the pivot-bolts, of the tilting drawers B C I), having end boards bounded by circular edges and secured to the pivoted arms, substantially as specified.
I11 testimony whereof I a'hix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD C. ROBERTS.
