D. W. PERRY.
GUI-DB POB, BAND AND SCROLL SAWS.
No. 395,797. l .Patented-Jan. 8,v 188'9.
UNITED STATES' PATENT EEIcE.
DANIEL lV. PERRY, OF HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
GUIDE FOR BAND AND SCROLLv SAWS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 395,79*?, dated January 8, 1889. Application tiled .Tune 2l, 1888. Serial No. 277,748. (No model.)v
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL. \V. PERRY, of I-Iarrisbnrg', in the county of Dauphin, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Guides for Band and Scroll Saws; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification. y
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in saw-guides, whereby they are more quickly adjusted and are more durable.
The invention consists in the peculiar construction and combination of the several parts, as more fully hereinafter described.
Figure I is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a plan view in section. Fig. S is a frontview of guide-pieces and oilcups. Fig. Jt is a section of the stem A, showing the binding-bolt f. Fig. 5 is a vertical section of the stem A, showingl the oilways I) lf). Fig. G is an inside view of guide-pieces G.
The saw-guide, when in use, is attached to a vertical bar suspended above the table of the saw. This bar is adjustable to any height of material to be cut. It is not shown in the drawings, but is a necessary attachment of all band and scroll saws.
The stem A, l is constructed with guideways on its sides. It is cored out in the front end, in which space the roller B is secured by suitable boxes. It has oilways on both sides to the roller-shaft, to which the oil-cups D D are attached. It also has a landing-bolt, f', and nutf. The face of the guide, to which the guide-pieces G G are ad justably secured by the bolts 7L h h h, ias guide-arms e e, which are fitted to slide in the guideways on the stem A, and are slotted to receive the bindingbolt f, the use of which will be explained farther on.
The guide-pieces G G are cut away on their inner surface to allow the roller B suicient space to revolve freely when the guides are set for any width of saw. The face of the guide-pieces is cut away in front, so that the roller can be kept clean and be in View at all times. They are slotted at the bolts 7i 7i h h, that they may be set for any thickness of saw required. They are also provided with oil chambers on top, with small openings next the saw. In using` this class of saws it is often necessary to change from one width of saw to another. By my improvement the change is quickly made. By loosening the nut f the face and guide-pieces are bodily set at any point desired and securely held by the binding bolt and nut f. The slot in the arms e e limits the movement front or back, as maybe required. V
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
I. In a saw-guide, the combination, with the stem A, having a roller in its front end and guideways on both sides, of the movable face E, having,` guide-arms suitably adjusted to slide in the ways on the stem A, the guidepieces adjustably attached to the face E, substantially as set forth.
2. In a saw-guide, the combination, with the stem A, having a roller in its front end and guideways on both sides, of the movable face E, havin g guide-arms suitably adj usted to slide in the ways on the stem A, the guide-pieces attached adjustably to the face E, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with the stem A, having1 a roller in its front end, of a movable face7 E, adj ustably secured to slide on the stem A, the guide-pieces G G cut away in their central portion, substantially for the purpose spec-ined.
DANIEL W. PERRY.
