To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORATIO S. llARLH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicopee Falls, llamp den county, State of Massaehw setts,have invented a new and useful Improved Pie-Fork, ofwhich the following is aspecilica lion.
My iin iirovcments relate to that class of pielorks in which the pie grasped in the lingers of the device is given a rotation upon being lifted from the lloor of the oven, and have for their object an increased simplicity of construc tion and a compactness in the arrangement of the parts, enabling the device to be manipulated in the limited space in which itcan only be used to greater advantage.
My invention consists in the combination and construction as hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the claim.
The invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure I isa side view, in partial section, ol'a part of the device. Fig. ll is a side view of the same part in a changed position. Fig. III is a plan view of the same; and Fig. IV is a perspective view, in reduced scale, of thecoinplete device in operative position.
Heretofore pie-forks of this class have ob tained their rotation by gravity upon lifting the pie, representing the weight, from the Oven-floor; but the distance required by the weight to fall in order to obtain arotation by following the threads of a quick screw has re quired a vertical offset from the handle,whieh materially circnmseribes the distance to which the fork may be lifted in the limited space of an even without striking against the roof thereof, in some cases insufficient to enable the device to be worked, whereas on the other hand, when said offset from the handle is down ward between the grasping-fingers, it is liable to dig into the crust of the pie before the fin gers can stretch far enough apart to grasp the plate, in order to obviate which disadvantages in a very convenient device, as well as to ob tain a much quicker rotation to the pie, and so obviate discomfort to the operator, whose hand is within or close to the heated oven, as well as save the heat in the even by shortening the time necessary for its door to remain open, I construct a rotating device as follows:

The operation of my device is as follows: The bar B is rotated by hand .to wind up the spring h, and, the tooth f having passed under red C, the bar ll is pushed up slightly to cause the vertical face of tooth f to catch against the side of the rod 0. The device is now wound and set, and the weight of the pie coining upon bar B pulls the catch free from red C, and the coilspring revolves the bar ll until the tooth 0, bringing up against rod 0, stops the pic at a halfirotation. The spring may be made as strong as desired, and the catch formed by tooth f be proportioned in sensitiveness to the strength of the spring.
