DEVICE FOR AL LEVIATION OF NON-MUSCULAR PAIN BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention.
This invention relates to a new and improved device for alleviation of non-muscular pain and discomfort.
2. Prior Art The relief or alleviation of non-muscular pain hitherto has been achieved by the use of massage and finger pressure along certain areas of the body. Applicant is unaware of any prior art that discloses the use of a small rigid sphere with a plaster backing as a substitute for massage and finger pressure which will produce similar results when applied to certain areas of the body.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The invention comprises the combination of a single rigid sphere affixed to an adhesive base material which has sticking qualities. The spheres may range in size from about 1 millimeter to about 3 millimeters and are preferably made of metal. The device is preferably used in a plurality of devices and is applied to certain body points for the alleviation of non-muscular pain and discomfort.
A covering can be used to protect the spheres by placing it on top of the spheres.
It is, therefore, an object of this invention to provide a device which can be used instead of massage and finger pressure for the purpose of alleviating non-muscular pain and discomfort.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device which can be used by a person without special training to achieve similar results that have been achieved by the use of massage and finger pressure.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device which is relatively inexpensive and easy to manufacture.
These and other objects will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing in which FIG. 1 is a plan view, partly broken away, ofa plurality of embodiments of my invention arranged in a double row.
FIG. 2 is a section taken along Lines 22 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged view of a single embodiment of my invention in perspective.
The device 10 is constructed by using a pliable base material 11 such as surgical plaster or the like having adhesive properties substantially covering one surface thereof. The device may be made in single units, or a plurality of the units may be made in strips with the units delineated by suitable perforations 12 in the strip to produce demarcation of the individual units of the device 10.
Each device is provided with a single small sphere l4 ranging in size from one to three millimeters, and which is disposed on and immovably affixed to the adhesive means adjacent the center of the base material. A cover 16 may be added as desired.
In use, the device 10 is attached by the adhesive in a plurality of at least two to eight units or more to a persons body with the rigid spheres located over commonly known pressure or trigger points for the purpose of applying pressure and thereby alleviating non-muscular pain and discomfort, for a suitable period of time such as two hours or longer. The device may be used as a substitute for massage and finger pressure and will achieve similar results, even by a layman.
Although I have described my invention in detail with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understood that numerous changes in the details of construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
1. A device adapted to be attached to the body at commonly known pressure or trigger points for alleviating non-muscular pain and discomfort, comprising: a base of pliable material; adhesive means at least substantially covering one surface of the pliable base material; and a small rigid sphere disposed on said adhesive means adjacent the center of said base material, said sphere being immovably fixed to said base material by said adhesive means, the adhesive means surrounding said sphere being adapted to attach the device to the body with the sphere located over a pressure or trigger point for applying pressure thereto and thereby alleviating non-muscular pain and discomfort.
2. A device according to claim 1 in which said sphere has a diameter ranging from one millimeter to about three millimeters.
Claims (2)
