Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
A. H. LANGHOLZ, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN RIDING-SPURS'.
fo all whom, it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, A. H. LANGHOLZ, of Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented new, and useful Improvements in Riding- Spurs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference bein g had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters otl reference marked thereon, making a part of this specication.
The nature of my invention consists in a curved plate having a spring and slot, into which the stay 0r bent support of the spur is inserted; also, a forked and notched pin, which is intended to be inserted in the slot of the plate when the spur is removed, for the purpose of preventing dirt or sand from filling up the slot.
To enable others skilled in' the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represen ts a small curved plate, to lit into the back of the heel of a boot, having apertures B at each side, for the purpose of being screwed on tightly to the heel. In the center (on the inside) is a small spring, C, operated by apin, I), the head of which projects on the outside of the plate A. The plate A has a slot or opening, E, into which the forked ends G of the stay or support H are inserted. The forked ends have notches I near their ends, into which the lower end of spring C which is bent) [its and prevents the spur from falling out. J is the spur. The plate A being permanently screwed fast onto the heel of a boot, the forked ends of the stay H are placed into the slot E, and the stay is held firmly by the spring C. To remove the spur, the head of pin D is pressed against, (with the thumb or tinger,) which forces the spring C out ot' the notches I, and the spur is easily withdrawn, and the forked and notched pin K is inserted in its place to prevent dirt or sand from filling up the slot E, also to have a neat appearance on the heel of the boot and relieve the heel from the objectionable spur being Worn in the house 0r in a parlor.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The curved plate A, arranged with its spring C, pin D, and slot E, in combination with the forked and notched ends of the stay H, forming a movable spur.
A. H. LANGHOLZ.
