Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PLATT C. IN GEBSODL, OF GREEN POINT, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HIM- SELF AND II. F. DOUGHERTY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVED MODE OF FASTENING DOORS OF HAY AND COTTON PRESSES.
Specification forming part of Lett-ers Patent No. 38,928, dated June 1G, ISGS.
To all whom, it may concern:4
Beit known that I, P. C. INGERsoLL, of Green Point, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fastening Doors of Hay, Cotton, and other Presses; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specication, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation of the top section of a press; Fig. 2, aplan view of the top of a press.
Ais theframe of a press.
B are doors upon either sideof a press, as shown in Fig: 2.
O are rods, straps, or levers hinged at D to the doors B.
vprojections K,which securely hold sidingL up `in the position required while a bale is being pressed. y
M is a lever hinged at N, it acts as a fastener to keep levers I and their projections K in contact with siding L.
O is the cover or top door. Itis secured in position (when a bale is being pressed) with stirrups P, and can be readily and easily opened by lever Q.
Operation: Open the top or door O,(as this press is intended to be used with a follower working upward;) ill the press with the Inaterial to be pressed; close the door O, the two doors B also being closed, (the kind of press to which this is a part being attached, and which is more fully described in another application that accompanies.) The press is then operated to pressor compress the bale. The doors B,or one of the said doors, are opened by actuating the spring catch or latch F, thus releasing rod C. At the same time move lever M in the direction shown by the arrow, thereby releasing levers I. The bale can be then faste'ned by any of the known ways, and conveniently removed from the press.
vThat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure-by Letters Patent, is-
1. IPhe levers C, attached to the doors of a press, with their fastenings E and F, as and for the purpose described.
. 2. The levers I and their mode of hanging, fastening, and operating, as and forthe purpose specified.
3. The projections G, for the purpose del scribed.
PLATT c. rNGERsoLL.
