INSECT-POWDER BLOWER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 388,702 dated August 28, 1888.

cover of the box, whereby the openings either in the top or bottom of the boxes heretofore made may be dispensed with, so that the inte rior of the box may be more conveniently filled.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical section of the device, in which is fully shown the main features of my invention. Fig.

Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings, in whicha represents the main body of the box, the lid or cover b of which is composed of the exterior vertical portion 0, provided with the exterior horizontal annular Web d, against the under side of which is held the leather, rubber,

or textile fabric e, by means of the interior web, f, forming a part of the interior vertical portion, 9, held in position either by solder or by indentations 9 made in both the vertical portions 0 and g. The webfis provided with two or more depending arms, h, the lower ends of which are connected with the depending spring 2', the upper portion of which rests within the cup 70, the latter of which is held in position by means of a rivet, k,which also holds the depressing-plate Z located on the exterior of the bellows portion of the device. The

lower end or bottom of the spring i rests in the arms a short distance above the bottom of the box.

The main body of the box is provided with the nozzle m, through which the powder is forced by the bellows of the device.

Heretofore insect-powder boxes and bellows were made so as not to be taken apart, and

were provided with an opening either in the top or bottom of the box. This construction I found to be veryinconvenient when filling the box with the powder, because the stopper must first be removed and then a funnel inserted and the powder poured into the same. It will be obvious that much waste is caused by this construction, as there is no possible way to ascertain when the box shallhavesufficientquantity only by the hopper of the funnel, which,

when removed, causes a portion of the powder to be wasted; but in my invention the lid and the operative mechanism for the-bellows are removed and the powder poured in and then the lid is replaced. Thus it will be seen that my' invention fully obviates the objections pointed 1 out in other devices used for the same purpose.

Having thus described my invention, whatl claim asnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination consisting of the main said, two or more depending arms extending from the interior web, said arms adapted .to support the lower portion of the depending spring, the upper end of the latter resting within the cup held against and to the bellows by means of the rivet,an d the depressing-plate s 5 secured to the exterior of the device, substantially as shown and described.
