LASTHSTANDARD.
EQ'PECIFICATIONA'forming part of Letters Patent No. 385,514, dated July 3, 1888.
Application iilcd October l-l, 18S?. Serial No. 253,163. (No model.)
To @ZZ who/1t il; may concern:
Beit known that I, BENJAMiN G. HAsKELr., of Boston, in the county of Suti'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Interlocking Swivel Standards and Lasts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved standard adapted to be used for diiierent sized iron [e lasts in the manufacture or repairof boots and shoes.
The object of my invention is to facilitate the repairing of boots and shoes. X'Vhen nails are used to fasten the sole, an iron last must I5 necessarily be used.
Ot' the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of my invention complete, with the last in position. Fig. 2 is a view of my invention with the last removed. Fig. 3 is a 2o top view oi' the iron flange. Fig. et is a bottom view ofthe last G removed from the standard, and shows the slot which receives lhe pin. Fig. 5 is a side view of the last, and shows the projection O which iits the slots in the iron cap. Fig. G is a sectional view of a modied form ofthe cap E and manner of seeuringthe same to the standard A.
A is the standard, preferably made of ash; but it ina-y be made ot' any suitable material.
B is a pin driven into the standard which supports the last in position and on which it revolves.
E is the solid iron cap with a raised llange, in which b b represent the slots.
I) is the central opening in the cap which receives the pin I; but the standard and cap may be made of a single piece of metal. This iron cap is seen in position in Fig. 2. In Fig.
6 I have shown the cap E constructed as quit-e 4o a large block and extended down over a reduced portion, t, of the standard and secured `in place by a pin, n. Any other suitable means of securing the cap to the standard may, however, be provided.
D is the opening in the last G, which fits on the pin B. O is the projection which ts the slots b b of the cap and holds the last G in any desired position.
The standard may be secured in any suitable way to a counter or bench, or may be set 5o up on its own bottom on the floor; and to give it a broader base, so that it will stand alone steadily, I may secure brackets E to the sides of the standard at the base, as seen in Fig. 1.
Having now described my invention.. what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
l. In the herein-described device for repairing boots and shoes, the standard A, provided with the iron cap E, and pin B, extending 6o through the cap into the standard, in combination with the slotted last G, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
2. A device for manufacturing and repairing boots and shoes, consisting of the standard A, in combination with the iron cap E, provided with the slots b I), the raised flanges a a, the opening D, and the last G, provided with the slot D and the protuberance O, substantially as herein shown and described, and for 7o the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to this specification, Ain the presence of two 'subscribing witnesses, this 20th day of October, 'A. D. 1S87.
BENJAMIN O. I-IASKELL.
