Prior to smoking and such that this tool is held in its cavity by a magnet.
The primary object of this invention is to provide 'a pipe with a built-in, convenient and readily available tool for cleaning the bowl of old tobacco ash and for correctly packing the new load of tobacco by having this tool incorporated directly into the pipe stem.
Still a further object of this invention relates to the ease of storing and removing thisbowl cleaning and packing tool from its cavity in the stem of the pipe with the aid of a magnet in the cavity.
Various other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter become more fully apparent from the following description of the drawing, illustrating a presently preferred embodiment thereof, and wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the bowl cleaning and packing tool.
FIG. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the complete smoking pipe with the bowl cleaning and packing tool.
FIG. 3 is a bottom view of the complete smoking pipe with the bowl cleaning and packing tool.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, the pipe consists of the bowl 2 which has a tobacco receiving cavity 1 for holding the tobacco. The bowl 2 is attached to the stem 3, attached to the stem 3 is the mouthpiece 4. The tobacco receiving cavity 1 of the bowl 2 is connected by the inside passageway 5 which passes through the stem 3 and the mouthpiece 4. This passage way 5 carries the smoke from the tobacco receiving cavity 1 to the smokers mouth. The bowl 2 and the stem 3 are fabricated of briarwood or other suitable conventional material by conventional means. The
- a 2 mouthpiece 4 is of plastic and made by conventional means.
A cavity 6 is cut or formed into the stem 3 by conventional means. Into this cavity 6 is placed a magnet 7 which is held in its position in this cavity 6 by an adhesive or other conventional means.
Next into the cavity 6 is placed the bowl cleaning and packing tool 8 which has two ends. The scraping end 9 is used to clean the inside wall and the bottom of the bowl 2 after the pipe is smoked, and also used to remove lumps of burned and unburned tobacco that is inside the bowl 2 after smoking. The packing end 10 is used to pack the new tobacco in the bowl 2 to the proper density for a correct burning of this tobacco when the pipe is smoked. At the packing end 10 of the bowl cleaning and packing tool 8 is a knurled area 11, which when the tool 8 is inserted in the cavity 6, can be pressed with the finger to partially remove the tool 8 from the magnet 7 and the cavity 6 so that a smokers finger or fingernail can be inserted under the cleaning end 9 of the tool 8 so that the tool 8 can be removed from the stem 3 and put into use. This bowl cleaning and packing tool 8 is made of creme-plated steel by conventional means.
Various modifications and changes are contemplated and may be resorted to, without departing from the function or scope of the inventionas hereinafter defined by the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
1. A tobacco pipe having a vertically arranged bowl and a stem extending laterally from the lower end portion thereof, the stem having a first recessed portion extending lengthwise along the periphery of the lower portion thereof and arranged to receive a ferromagnetic tobacco tamping and bowl scraping tool therein, means providing a further recessed portion smaller in length than and substantially in the midportion of said first recessed portion, and a magnet mounted in said further recessed portion, said magnet being arranged to releasably hold said tool in said first recessed portion.
