NECK YOKB FASTENING. No 380,492. Patented Apr. 3, 1888.

ADOLPH P. KOCH AND WILLIAM G. KOCH, OF EFFINGHAM, ILLINOIS.
NECK-YOKE FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 380,492, dated April 3, 1888.
Application filed February .2, 1888. Serial No. 262.744. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, ADoLrH P. KOCH and WILLIAM G. KooH, both of Effingham, in the county ofEffingham and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Detachable Fastening for Neck-Yokes, of which the following is a. full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to neck-yokes which are used with harness-collars and a pole for a vehicle, and has for its object to provide a detachable fastening whereby the strap connecting the ends of the neck-yoke with the harness-collar need not be buckled or unbuckled, but can be simply attached or detached.
The invention consists in a detachable fastening, connecting the collar-strap with the ends of the neck-yoke, constructed and applied as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a pole and neck-yoke illustrating the use of the invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the neck-yoke points, and Fig. 3 is a detail of the detachable fastening device for connecting the collar strap with the neck-yoke.
In carrying out this invention a detachable sleeve, 1, of metal is employed, (shown in Fig. 3,) formed with an opening, 2, having an extended recessed portion, 3, and lugs or pro jections 4, connected by a cross-bar forming slots 5, adapted to receive and retain a collarstrap. The detachable sleeve 1 is adapted to slip over the ferrule or point- 6 011 the end of a neck-yoke, 7, provided with a projection, 8, on its end corresponding in form with the recess 3 of sleeve 1.
In use the collar-strap 9is passed through the slots 5 in the detachable sleeve 1, extending about the latter and through the under loop, 10, of the strap 9, and is secured by buckle 11. The sleeve 1 is slipped over the ferrule or point 6, the neck-yoke 7 being in the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. l, the strap 12 and point 6 projecting upward, thus permitting projection 8 to pass through recess 3. Ihe neck-yoke 7 is then turned to bring the projection 8 into the position shown in Fig. 1, and the pole 13 is brought into engagement with tongue 12. In this way the sleeve 1 is securely held in position on neckyoke 7.
To disengage the neck-yoke the above-described operation is reversed.
It will be seen that by means of this construction the collar-strap 9 can be readily detached from the neck-yoke '7 without unbuckling it, and it is also securely attached thereto with out any danger of becoming detached.
YVe do not intend to limit ourselves to the exact construction of the ferrule 6 and detachable sleeve 1, as hereinbefore described, since they may be varied in form without departing from the principle of our invention.
Having thus fully described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patentl. A detachable fastening for neck'yokes, consisting of a sleeve adapted to engage the end of the neck-yoke, having an extended recess adapted to register with a correspondingly-shaped projection on the neck-yoke end, and slotted projections to receive a harness collar strap, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a neck-yoke ferrule having a lateral projection or lug, ofa detachable sleeve with an extended recess or slot adapted to register with said lug or projection on the ferrule, andstrap-retaining projections, substantially as described.
3. The combination, with a neck-yoke having a ferrule provided with a lateral lug or projection, of a detachable sleeve with an ex tended recess or slot engaging said ferrule, and a harness-collar strap passing through slotted retaining projections in said detachable sleeve, substantially as described.
4. The combination, with the neck-yoke 7, having projection 8, of a detachable sleeve, 1, having an extended recess, 3, and projections 4, with slots 5, and a harness-collar strap, 9, passing through said slots 5, substantially as described.
