STICK TYPE COSMETIC APPLICATOR BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention This invention relates to a cosmetic applicator, more particularly, relates to a stick type cosmetic applicator for solid cosmetics, such as a lipstick, eyebrow pencils, mascara and other solid cosmetic materials. However, for convenience of the illustration to clarify the characteristic feature of the present invention, a cosmetic applicator utilized for lipstick is particularly described as an embodiment of the present invention.
2. Description of the Prior Art I Stick type cosmetic applicators enabling a solid cosmetic contained therein to project and retract with respect thereto have been well known, however, many of them include therein a metallic sleeve means provided with a pair of helical slots as an actuating means. Therefore, the construction of the conventional applicators is complicated, in addition, there is limitation of projecting or retracting speed of the solid cosmetic with respect to the applicator, since the solid cosmetic contained within the conventional applicators is projected or retracted along only the pair of helical slots provided in the applicator.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A principal object of the present invention is to provide an improved stick type cosmetic applicator which can quickly and smoothly project and retract a solid cosmetic contained therein, and that the solid cosmetic may be efficiently and completely used up to the last without touching the same.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved stick type cosmetic applicator which is simple in its construction without using conventional sleeve means.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved stick type cosmetic applicator capable of being produced at a very low cost.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide an improved stick type cosmetic applicator which can be made of synthetic resin.
Other and more detailed objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent as the description of a suitable form of applicator embodying the present invention is hereinafter described.
The stick type cosmetic applicator of the present invention is provided with a cylindrical casing, a base member rotatably disposed at the lower end of the casing and an actuating means for projecting and retracting a solid cosmetic contained within the applicator. One of the characteristic features of the stick type cosmetic applicator according to the present invention is that the actuating means comprises a relay barrel and a saucer supporting the cosmetic which are relatively moved with each other in the applicator through a screw rod integrally connected to and longitudinally extended from thecenter of the back of the saucer and a screw hole provided at the center portion of the top of the relay barrel, which is engaged with the screw rod, and which are turnably and slidably engaged with the cylindrical casing and the base member, respectively, by means of the key and the screw mechanisms provided in the applicator without using any conventional sleeve means. The projecting or retracting motion of the solid cosmetic loaded on the saucer is smoothly and promptly operated by the actuating means when the base member is rotated with respect to the cylindrical casing.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a perspective exploded view of certain ele ments of a stick type cosmetic applicator according to the present invention.
FIG. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal cross sectional view of the applicator embodying the present invention.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged longitudinal cross sectional view of the applicator shown in the FIG. 2 when a solid cosmetic is projected from the tip of the applicator for use.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to the drawings from FIG. 1 to FIG. 3, a stick type cosmetic applicator of the present invention comprises a cylindrical casing 6 having a continued spiral groove 5 at the lower part of the inside wall thereof and having a pair of longitudinally extending key ways 12 symmetrically formed at the upper part of the inside wall thereof with respect to an axis of the casing; a base member 1 turnably and coaxially disposed at the lower end of the casing 6 having an integral longitudinal, upwardly extending short outer wall portion 4 at the peripheral edge thereof and an integral longitudinal, upwardly extending cylindrical pillar portion 3 at the center portion of the base member 1 which has a pair of integral, longitudinally extending keys 2 symmetrically formed at the outer periphery thereof with respect to an axis of the base member; and an actuating means disposed within the applicator which is comprises a relay barrel 9 and a saucer 15 supporting the solid cosmetic 14. The relay barrel 9 has a screw hole 10 at the center portion of the top thereof and is provided with a pair of integral, transversely projecting pins 7 symmetrically formed at the lower end of the outer periphery thereof with respect to an axis thereof which engage the spiral groove 5 of the cylindrical casing 6 and is provided with a pair of longitudinally extending key ways 8 symmetrically formed at the inside wall thereof with respect to an axis thereof which are slidably engaged with the keys 2 of the pillar portion 3 of the base member 1. The saucer 15 is provided with an integral screw rod 11 at the center portion of the back thereof which has a counter screw at the priphery thereof with respect to the spiral groove 5 of the cylindrical casing 6 and extends longitudinally downwards and is provided with a pair of integral, transversely projecting l3 symmetrically fonned at an intermediate portion of the outer periphery thereof with respect to an axis thereof which are slidably engaged with the pair of key ways 12 of the cylindrical casing 6. The screw rod 11 is engaged with the screw hole 10 provided at the center portion of the top of the barrel 9.
The applicator of the present invention has the construction as described above, therefore, the operation for use of the same is described hereinafter.
' In the applicator shown in the F IG.. 2, when the cylindrical casing is kept in a stationary state by one hand of the user and the base member 1 is rotated with respect to the casing 6 by the other hand, simultaneously the cylindrical pillar portion 3 of the base member 1 is rotated to turn the relay barrel 9 through the pair of keys 2 provided on the pillar portion 3 of the base member 1 and slidably engaged with the pair of key ways 8 provided at the inside wall of the barrel 9,
thereby the barrel 9 is elevated upwards while being guided along the spiral groove 5 provided at the inside wall of the casing 6 through the pair of pins 7 provided at the lower end of the barrel 9 engaged with the spiral groove 5. Simultaneously the saucer 15 is quickly elevated upwards in the casing 6 relative to the rotating and elevating motion of the relay barrel 9 by the interposition of the screw rod 1 1 provided at the back of the saucer 15 and the screw hole 10 provided at the top of the relay barrel 9 which are engaged with each other .While being guided along the pair of key ways 12 provided at the inside wall of the casing 6 through the pair of pins 13 provided on the saucer 15. Thus, the solid cosmetic 14 contained within the applicator of the present invention is projected smoothly and quickly from the tip of the applicator by the novel actuating means including the key and the screw mechanisms without using the conventional sleeve means when the base member 1 is rotated with respect to the cylindrical casing 6 as shown in the FIG. 3. After use, the relay barrel 9 is lowered through the guide of the spiral groove 5 by rotating the base member 1 with respect to the casing 6 in the opposite direction, and simultaneously the saucer 15 is quickly lowered theretogether, thereby the projected solid cosmetic 14 may be retracted quickly to its original position as shown in the FIG. 2.
According to the applicator of the present invention, the solid cosmetic contained therein may efficiently and completely be used up to the last without touching the same. Moreover, the applicator of the present invention includes various advantageous merits that the use and the handling thereof are very convenient, that the construction thereof is very simple, therefore, its assembling is very easy, and that the applicator is manufactured at a very low cost, since all of the component elements thereof can be made of a synthetic resin.
