ADJUSTABLE CRIB-BEDSTEAD.
$PECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 378355, dated February 28, 1888.
Application filed June 4, 1886. Renewed September 26, 18?. Serial No. 250,784. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CARRIE HORSE, a resident of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a new and useful Adjust-able Orib-Bedstead; and I hereby declare that the following is a fulhclear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to the application of an adjustable bed-frame to a cribbedstead, whereby two independent beds are provided on one bedstead.
The following description fully explains the nature of my said invention and the manner in which I proceed to construct, apply, and use the same, the accompanying drawings being referred to by figures and letters.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cribbedstead, showing the adjustment of the up per bed-frame. Fig. 2 is a transverse verti cal section through the crib-bedstead. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal elevation of the adjustable lied-frame. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the upper part of a cribbedstcad post.
The object of my device is to provide a cribbedstead having two separate and convenient beds.
Referring to Fig. 1, a, the crib-bedstead, has a stationary bed-frame, b, and an adjustable bedfranue, c. The latter frameis smaller than the stationary frame and is let down into it and rests upon it, the two frames thus forming a single bed-frame. On the inner side of each post of the cribbedstead a strip of wood, d, is attached or forms part of the post, in which are several recesses, 2, having a down out to receive the bolts on the ends of the rollers. On each end of the side hoards of the adj ustable bed-frame there is a out, i, Fig. 2, for the action of the arms 9, one end of which is pivoted on a bolt, set in the out i, and the other end on a bolt, it, having a long head which enters the ends of the rollers f, placed over the head and foot boards of the frame 0. I do not, however, confine myself to this manner of attaching the rollers to the bars, as an iron rod may be used which will pass through the roller, one end having a long head and the others. thread upon which a long nut will be set.
In arranging my crib-bedstead for two independent beds, the rollers f are turned inward and the bed-frame c is raised to the level of either line of recesses c, and the rollers are then turned outward, which action brings the bolts 71. in the ends of the rollers over the recesses,
which they are permitted to enter, the form of the recess holding them securely. The action of the arms which are pivoted on the bolt j, set in the out i in the sides of the frame a, and pivoted on the bolts h in the ends of the rollers, and swing in the out 1', permits the ready adjustment of the bed-frame c in either line of recesses selected for the purpose.
My adjustable crib-bedstead is, except as to the heights of the posts, of the same size as the ordinary one and requires no more space, and when the adjustable frame is let down into the stationary frame it shows a neat and finished single crib-bedstead. I claim that it is convenientand useful, as it may be adjusted by simple means into two separate and secure beds placed one above the other.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an adjustable crib-bedstead, the strip 01 on the crib-bedstead posts, having recesses e, in which the bolts It or the ends of rods passing through the rollers are caught, the arms 9, pivoted on boltsj, set in the out 1', and pivoted on bolts h in the rollers f, in combination with the adjustable bed-frame c, stationary bed-frame b, and crib-bedstead a, substantially as and for the purpose herein described.
