Primary ExaminerJoseph- F. Peters, Jr. Attorney-Allison C. Collard [57] ABSTRACT A luminous display device for projecting various colored light rays in a moving effect, the device consisting of an electric light socket fitted with a standard flood light or spot light lamp bulb and which is enclosed within an outer shade, the shade being open at its front end within which there is a front frame support secured by means of spring clips, the front frame support having a series of openings therethrough so to permit light rays from the bulb to pass therethrough, and the front frame support supporting a rotatable metallic conductor reflector with a series of tabs struck out therefrom, the tabs being bent up at right angles to the plane of the metallic conductor reflector, one side of the tabs having a highly polished surface on one side while the opposite side thereof has a dull matte black applied thereto, the conductor reflector of the device being caused to rotate by convection currents generated by the heat of the bulb, and each of the struck out openings in the conductor reflector being fitted with variously colored glass through which the light rays penetrate.
1 Claim, 3 Drawing Figures KALIEDO-LIGHT This invention relates generally to lamp holders and illuminating devices generally. More specifically this invention relates to a luminous display device.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a kaliedo light that produces a novel luminous effect of variously colored lights in a moving effect.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a kaliedo light wherein the movements of the colored lights are obtained by means of a rotating metallic conductor reflector positioned in front of an electric lamp bulb.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a kaliedo light wherein the conductor reflectors are replaceable with other conductor reflectors having a different pattern of colored illumination built thereinto.
Still another purpose of the present invention is to provide a kaliedo light which can be readily mounted on the front end of an outer shade of an electric lamp bulb.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a kaliedo light which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein FIG. 1 is a sidecross-sectional view of a lamp assembly shown with the present invention incorporated therewith;
FIG. 2 is a front elevation view of a rotating metallic conductor reflector; and
FIG. 3 is a front elevation view of a front frame support that supports the rotating metallic conductor reflector and which is securable to a front end of a lamp shade.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents a kaliedo light, according to the present invention, wherein there is a conventional and standard electric socket 11 to which a standard flood light or spot light lamp bulb 12 is attached. An outer shade 13 is placed around the lamp bulb 12, the shade being secured to the socket 11 such as is'shown in FIG. I of the drawing.
A forward end of the shade 13 is open so to permit the light rays from the lamp bulb 12 to be directed outwardly therefrom.
In the present invention, a front frame support 14 is removably mounted within the front end opening of the shade 13. The shade is provided with a plurality of spring clips 15 around the peripheral edge 16 thereof, each spring clip having a tongue 17 which fits around the peripheral edge 18 of the front frame support and extends over a front side 19 thereof so to retain the front frame support which at its rear side rests against a plurality of tongues 20 struck out around the peripheral edge of the shade 13, as is best shown in FIG. 1 of the drawing. Thus the front frame support is supported between the tongues 17 and 20. Thus a means is provided for removal of the front frame support so to be in access to replacement of the lamp bulb 12.
The front frame support comprises a circular member having a plurality of openings 20 therethrough so to permit the light rays from the lamp to pass therethrough. At its center, the front frame support has a central opening 21 within which there is mounted a pivot pin 22 and upon which there is freely rotated a rotating metallic conductor reflector 23, shown in FIG. 2 of the drawing.
The rotating metallic conductor reflector 23 comprises a circular metal disc having a central bearing opening 24 for being fitted on the pin 22. The opening 24 is located within a central hub 25 connected by means of radially extending spokes 26 to a relatively wide rim 27 of circular configuration so that there are a plurality of openings 28 between the hub and the rim 27, the openings 28 serving to permit light rays to pass directly from the lamp bulb therethrough.
The rim 27 of the metallic conductor reflector has a plurality of struck out tabs 29 formed thereupon, the struck out tabs being bent at right angle to the plane of the rim 27, as is shown in FIG. 1. Each of the struck out tabs 29 on one side is highly polished such as is shown at 30 while the opposite side of the tabs 29 are coated with a dull matte black material as is shown at 31. The highly polished surfaces and the dull matte black surfaces reflect and absorb light rays, and convection currents caused by the heat generated by lamp bulb 12 causes the metallic conductor reflector to rotate in a continuously same direction. Each of the openings 32 formed by the struck out tabs on the rim 27 are fitted with a glass 33 which is variously colored. Thus as is suggested in FIG. 2 and wherein symbolic shading is illustrated, such colored glasses may be in red, blue, green, brown and the like.
In operative use, it is now evident that when the front frame support is fitted to the front end of a shade, and the front frame support supports a rotating metallic conductor reflector, the light from the lamp bulb l2 will pass through the various colored glasses 33' carried on the rotating conductor reflector so as to cause a moving variously colored light effect. At the same time, the conductor reflector is rotated by convection currents created by the heat generated by the lamp bulb.
Thus there is provided a novel kaliedo light.
What I now claim is:
1. In a kaliedo light, the combination comprising:
a light socket for receiving a lamp;
a shade, disposed on said socket, having one end thereof open so as to permit light rays to travel outwardly therethrough;
a support frame, disposed in said end of said shade, and detachably secured thereto by a plurality of spring clips, said support frame having a plurality of openings disposed therein for permitting light rays to pass therethrough;
a reflector, rotatably mounted on said support frame,
including a plurality of tabs disposed perpendicular to said reflector and extending therefrom into said open end of said shade, said tabs having one side thereof highly polished and the other side thereof coated with a dull matte black material and forming openings in said reflector adjacent the ends thereof; and
a plurality of colored pieces of glass, disposed in said openings formed by said tabs in said reflector, for
projecting colored light images from said reflector.
