BRUSH OR MOP HOLDER.

Be it known that I, MARTIN BOURKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brush or Mop Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the let ters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2is a longitudinal section of the device, showing it in use as a sponge or mop holder; Fig. 3, a side view, partly in section, showing the device in use as a brush-holder. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the two clampingsections.

The present invention has relation to that class of brush or mop holders in which a clamping device is employed; and it consists in the details of construction, substantially as shown in the drawings, and hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, A represents the head of the device provided with a series of straight teeth, B, pointed at their outer ends, as shown, said head having upon its inner sides suitably-formed spurs a.

The clamping device consists of the two sections 0 D, the former having perforations or holes b, for passing it over the teeth B, and also is formed with concave seats 0, for the teeth, and suitable spurs, d.

When the device is used as a brush-holder, as shown in Fig. 3, the section D of the clamping device is also formed with concave seats a, said seats, together with the seats on the section 0, embracing the opposite sides of the teeth when the two clamp-sections are brought together thereon, so as to cause increased fric tional contact of the sections with the teeth.

The clamping-section D is provided with a socket, f, or any other preferred means for attaching thereto a suitable handle, and the section has a hole, through which loosely passes a clampingscrew, h, the screw-th rcaded end thereof engaging with screw-threads of a hole, 9', in the clamping-section O, by which the two sections are brought tightly against the teeth B. l

When the device is used as a sponge or mop holder, the clamping-sections are first direction toward the clamp until the head and clamp are'brought tightly against the sponge or material forming the mop.

By the employment of the straight teeth and the clamping device small pieces of rags or sponge may be utilized by passing the teeth through them, which is considered of importance in this class of devices.

\Vhen the device is to be used as a brushholder, the clamp-section G is reversed, so that the spurs thereon will be opposite the spurs of the head A, said spurs on the head and clamping-section being brought firmly against the side of the brush-head.

The device above described may be constructed of any suitable material, either of metal, or part metal and wood, the clampingsections being constructed of hard wood or other suitable material in contradistinctiou to metal; but it is preferred that the entire device be formed of metal, whereby greater strength and durability are attained.

Having now fully described my invention,

'what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a brush or mop holder, a suitable head having a series of straight teeth pointed at their ends, in combination with a clamping device consisting of two sections connected to gether by a clamping-screw and adjustable on the teeth and removable therefrom, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. In a brush or mop holder, a head provided with inwardly-projecting spurs and a series of straight and pointed teeth, in combination with an adjustable and removable clamping device consisting of two independent sections connected together by a clamping screw, one of said sections having means for attaching thereto a suitable handle, and the IOG hereunto subscribed my name in the presence other section having holes or perforations of two witnesses.
