Podell [57] ABSTRACT A fingernail clipper container which may be mounted on a conventional fingernail clipper so as to retain the cuttings and prevent their being scattered about during the clipping process. The container consists of two flat members which are mounted on each open side of a conventional open side fingernail clipper, with both side members being joined by an elastic or spring member that retains the side members in position without interfering with the normal movement of the clipping bars. A rectangular ring may be also employed to fasten the container sides to the clipper.
3 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures FINGERNAIL CLIPPER CONTAINER SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to a means of retaining the clippings produced by a fingernail clipper inside the clipper during the operation so as to prevent the unsanitary scattering of such cuttings.
An advantage of this invention is that the conventional open-sided fingernail clipper may be readily modified, in accordance with the teachings of this invention.
The conventional fingernail clipper, to which this invention relates, consists of two flat spring metal members which are welded or joined together at one common end, and shaped so as to naturally spring away from each other at the free ends of the joined metal members, with the free ends shaped and sharpened so as to be the cutting jaws of the device, when the free ends are forcibly brought together by the attached cam lever mechanism. Since there is no covering of'the open sides in the conventional fingernail clipper, the cuttings fall through the open sides and in an unsanitary fashion.
In this invention, a flat side member is externally located to cover each open side of the fingernail clipper, with both side members joined by a spring or elastic band, and with both side members held in position by a rectangular band which fits about both side members and the shank of the fingernail clipper.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING The objects and features of the invention may be understood with reference to the following detailed description of an illustrative embodiment of the invention, taken together with the accompanying drawing in which:
FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view illustrating the fingernail clipper and container;
FIG. 2 is a side view of the equipped fingernail clipper; and
FIG. 3 is a front view of the equipped fingernail clipper.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODlMEN'l Turning now descriptively to the drawing in which similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views, FIGS. 1-3 illustrate the clipper 10 which consists of members 11 and 12 which are joined together at one common end 21 and are each spaced apart from each other at their other free end, with each free end sharpened in the form of a cutting jaw 13. The cutting jaws 13 of the members 11 and 12 are brought together by the manual movement of lever 14 which is fastened to pin 15.
Both open sides of the clipper 10 are covered by side cover members 16, which are joined together by a tension spring member 17 fastened by terminal 19 to each side cover member 16. An open rectangular ring 18 is also mounted about the two side members 16 and the tail section 22 of the clipper 10.
The clipper may be readily cleaned by removal of the side members 16. With side members 16 in place, all nail cuttings are retained inside of the device in accordance with sanitary requirements.
Since obvious changes may be made in the specific embodiment of the invention described herein, it is indicated that all matter contained herein is intended as illustrative and not as limiting in scope.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
i 1. A fingernail clipper container, which may be mounted about the open sides of a conventional fingernail clipper, so as to retain the fingernail cuttings and to
Claims (3)
1. A fingernail clipper container, which may be mounted about the open sides of a conventional fingernail clipper, so as to retain the fingernail cuttings and to prevent their unsanitary dispersal, consisting of two relatively flat side members which are joined together by a spring member and held in place about the two open sides of the fingernail clipper by said spring member and by an open rectangular ring which is mounted over the said side members and the shank of the fingernail clipper.
2. The combination recited in claim 1 in which the spring member is an elastic band.
3. The combination recited in claim 1 in which the spring member is a coiled spring.
