HORATIO G. K. ANDERSON, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
SPOOL-HOLDER."
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368.700, dated August 23, 1887.
Application filed May 17, 1887. Serial No. 238,544. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORATIO G. K. AN- DERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Havcn and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Crochet- Spool Holders, of which the following is specification.
My invention relates to crochet-spool holders; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts of the same, which will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel form of crochet-spool holder constructed of a single piece of wire of suitable resiliency, and adapted to be attached to the dress without the use of clasps. I attain this object by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like letters of reference in dicate similar parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved spool-holder, showing a spool attached in connection therewith and the holder passed over a button on an article of clothing. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the holder detached and the spool removed therefrom.
A indicates my improved form of holder, which is constructed of a single piece of wire and provided with the top loop, a, adapted to be secured over the button of a dress. This loop a projects some distance above the main body of the holder, and is of the configuration herein shown, as will be readily understood in the art. From the lower portion of each arm of the loop a the wire is projected outwardly .at right angles to form springcoils a, and
thence returns in a parallel line from the bottom of said coil to the top arms running from the lower portion of the loop a. From the lower arms, forming the spring-coils a, the wire is then projected outwardly on an incline and in a downward direction. Theseinclined arms a may be constructed of any desirable length, and from their lower ends arms a project away at right angles and in a plane transverse to the plane of the holder en tire. These transversely-projecting arms a have short arms a? formed at their outer ends, and projecting inwardly toward each other from the said arms a at right angles and on a slight raised incline. These two arms a extend only partially across the front portion of the holder, leaving an opening between the same, and are adapted to be inserted in the aperture of the spool, which, when placed in position upon these latter arms, is held in position between the arms a and away from the body of the spool-holder and the article of clothing to which it is attached.
By means of the upward inclination of the arms (0* the spool is held in contact with the holder, and prevented from becoming disengaged therefrom.
In mounting the spool in connection with my improved holder the two arms a are spread apart, and the short arms a will then be brought into a horizontal plane, engaging with each end of the opening of the spool. By this means the spool will be given a free revolution while croch etin g, and at the same time be held in retention with relation to the holder.
Suitable wire may be employed for the construction of my improved spool-holder, which may be suitably ornamented by any kind of plating, and the dimensions of the said holder may also be varied to suit the size of spool in connection with which it is to be used.
The novelty and utility of my improveddevice being obviously apparent, it need not be further enlarged upon herein.
Having thus described my invention, I claim-- As an improved article of manufacture, a
spool-holder having the substantially n shaped loop at the upper end, the parallel Cshaped arms extending from the ends of the loop and arranged at right angles thereto, the springcoils at the outer ends of the said parallel arms, the outwardly and downwardly inclined arms a extending from the inner ends of the lower one of the parallel arms, the straight horizontal arms a at the outer-ends of thearms a and the inwardlyprojecting arms a, forming the spindle for the spool, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my. own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HORATIO G. K. ANDERSON.
