No. 368,138. Patented Aug, 9, 1887.
///%ra V B I B WITNESSES INVENTOR ATTORNEY UNITED SrATEs PATENT OFFICE.
CORY VEBSTER DUDLEY, OF NEXV YORK, N. Y.
PACKAGE-HOLDER.
SPCIFICATIN orming part of Letters Patent No. 368,138, dated August 9, 1887.
Application filed November 8, 1886. Serial No. 918.269.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CORY WVEBSTER DUD- LEY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, County, and State of New York, haveinvented certain new and useful Im provements in Package Holders and Carriers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to develop a cheap, durable, and eflcient holder and carrier and to so shape the pendent portion of the same thatit may be readily applied to the cord of a hundle, and if so desired by both pendants at once, and to maintain a firm hold when in position.
My improvements eonsist in the construction of the carrier as a whole and the special pocket shape of the pendent portion. Other improvements consist in setting the pendants at right angles to the grip of the holder or carrier, that they may be both hooked at once upon the parcel-cord.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a plan View of my improved holder or carrier. Fig. 2 represents a holder or carrier enbodying my improvements with the grip portion in section. Fig. 3 shows an end View ofFigs. 1,2, and 4, presenting the special pockets c' c c formed in pendants. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the pendants are fastened to the grip by means of shanks driven or fastencd into the ends ofthe grip.
Similar letters of reference (lesignate like parts in all the figures.
A rcpresents the grip portion of the holder and carrier as made or formed of Wood or material of any kind according to choice or prefwire is bent downward from the handle, and
(Ne model.)
being sharply bent at'c c' c c forms hooked pockets within the pendants B B, leaving an opening at &through which the bundle or carrier cord is passed to effect suspension. The handle is operated at all times in a direction radial with the longitudinal center ofthe grip, and the pcndants, to facilitate the hooking of the cord, are set at right angles, ornearly so, to the center-line of grip portion. By such square shape as given to the pendant through the bends or poekel's c c' c c it is impossible for the hu ndle-cord to escape,as no matter in what direction the handle may drop when not gripped there is a sharp bend or reccss, c c' c 0 into which the cord sli ps and necessitates a forcible lifting of the cord to release it.
In all holders and carriers now made the hook is eontinued in a direct line with the grip, and unless the bundle-cord is very tight the hooks will slip from the cord without any force being applied. The cord of the bundle has to be hooked at one end, then twisted and hooked at the otherend. By my improvements the cord may be inserted at both pendants or hooks at once, and it will remain in place until forcibly removed.
hat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The package holder and carrier asherein shown and described, consisting of a central straight portion to form the grip, and a pairof hooks at opposite ends bent to form poekets c a o, said hooksbeing parallel to each other and set to a position at right angles to the said central grip portion, as set forth.
2. A package holder and carrier constructed with the grip portion A, filting over or inclosing the wire portion b, the ends of said wire portion being bent to form hooks having pockets c' c c, said hooks being parallel to each other and set to a position at right angles to the said central grip portion, as and for the purposes specified.
CORY XVEBSTER DUDLEY.
