ITED 'rA'rEs PATENT 'rrrca JOHN THOMAS PRIOR, OF PRIORS STATION, GEORGIA.
PLOW.
SPECIPICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,128, dated July 5, 1887..
Application filed March 23, 1887.
' T aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN THOMAS PRIOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Priors Station, in the county of Polk and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do declare the I following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,sueh as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My inventionrelates to halfshovel plows, and my object is to form one which will be stronger, more durable, and better braced than those now in common use. I
In the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a blank from which the shovel is made, and Fig. 2 is the complete shovel-blade.
In the figures, A represents the blade of the shovel, which has a V-shaped flange, B, rolled upon one edge, and which is an integral part of it. When the blade has been rolled for use, its lower or cutting edge is sharpened or beveled to cut. The edge of the flange is sharpened and beveled to readily enter and cut the earth, as seen at a I). The flange forms a strong brace on the edge of the bladetokeep it in shape'and at the same time assist in cutting when working in hard ground.
It will be observed that the lower part, b,
of the cutting-edge is rounded, and from its terminal angle the edge of the blade is directed backward, so as to produce a shear-cut. The essential feature of my invention con- Serial No. 232,140. (No model.)
form a plow. The sections cut from said blank are then subjected to suitable machinery,
which cuts the lower. end of shear part of of the blank obliquely, bevels it to form the cutting-edge a, and also rounds off the lower terminus of the fin at b, and bevels it to form a shear cut at this point.
I am aware that it isnot new to prepare plow-plates by rolling them in blanks of various forms and of unequal thickness and then cutting the blanks to the desired size and shape. I am also aware that plow shovels and scrapers have been common with flanges or cutting-edges made integral and compressed to the proper shape. I therefore claim only the exact form and product of my especial methods;
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A shovel-plow consisting of a curved shovelbody, A, having a cutting-fin, B, on the land side edge, condensed as described, the rounded cutting terminal portion I) of this fin, and the oblique cutting portion a of the body portion, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN THOMAS PRIOR.
