To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES E. LINCOLN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Ieunsyl Vania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Harness-Martingales; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to IO which it appertains to make and use the same,

reference being had to the accompanying d rawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.

My invention consists in the improvement in harnessmarlingales hereinafter set forth and explained.

ll/Iyinvention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows a side elevation of my improved harness martingale slide. Fig.2shows a top or plan view of the same. Fig. 3 shows a section of same on the line 00 m in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 shows the same on a neck-yoke with the harness-martingale in place thereon. Fig. 2 5 shows a modified construction of my improved harness martingale-slide.

Like letters refer to like parts in all the figures.

The object of my improvementis to provide a pad or slide for a harness-martingale of such shape that it will partially encircle and rest upon a neck yoke, around which slide the martingale may be placed, and secured there on in such'inauner that the martingale will 5 not come in contact with the neck-yoke and be worn by frictional contact therewith. To accomplish this result, I make a semicircular body, A, of metal or. other suitable material, so that it will fit around a ncek-yoke,13, as 40 illustrated in Fig. 4, the ends of the semicircle a a being extended somewhat substantially parallel to each other, the outside face, 0, of

the body A gradually tapering toward the inner face, 0, so as to form blunt edges at the endscc. Along each edge of the outside face,O, 5 I make flanges D of sufficient height to form guards for the edges of the martingale E, encircling the body A. Extending from one of the flanges D to the other I make crossbars F 1* F, the bars F F being preferably near the ends a. a, and the bar F near the centor of the curve in the body A, these crossbars being placed far enough from the face 0 of the body A so as to allow the martingale E to be inserted between the bars F F F and the outside face, (3, of the body A, and thereby be secured and retained in place thereon.

In Fig. 5 I show a section of a modified constrnction of. my device. In this form of c0nstruction the outside of the body A, the flanges D, and cross-bars F F F are the same in all respects as I have hereinbefore described. The inside face, 0, however, is chambered out, so as to receive a cushion, G, of rubber, leather, or other suitable material, which I secure in place therein by the cars a, near the ends a, and ears I), near the centenof the curved portion of the body A, these cars being bent inward upon the ends and edges of the cushion G, thereby securing it firmly in place.
