52. In a register including an ordinally arranged series of register wheels, a pivotal reciprocatory transfer actuator for each wheel comprising a lever arm shiftable in a first direction from a normal position in a forward stroke and shiftable in a second direction from operated position to normal position in a return stroke of operations for imparting like movement to its said actuator, a detaining means engaging each said actuator for yieldably holding each said actuator and its said arm in normal position, a common pivot support shaft for said actuators situated transverse said wheels, a common reciprocatory drive bail means for said actuators comprising a rod transverse said actuators normally blocking forward operation of said arms and therefore said actuators and being normally ineffective in its forward stroke in said first direction away from said arms of said actuators and being effective at the end of its return stroke in said second direction for blocking all of said arms and said actuators in normal position, normally disconnected hook means pivotally mounted on each said arm and being shiftable from ineffective position to rod engaging position for connecting each said arm to said rod for forward stroke operation of said actuator therewith in a primary transfer operation, and means operable upon movement of each wheel from a first to a second given registering position to shift the said hook means for the actuator of the next higher order wheel into engagement with said rod.
53. The combination according to claim 52 wherein said drive bail means includes bail portions secured to said rod and mounted on said shaft for arcuate reciprocation of said rod about the axis of said shaft, said arms and said actuators.
