2. Description of the Prior Art The prior art includes numerous apertured panel and similar items for supporting various types of tools and other articles in displayed and readily accessible positions for use and return. There are numerous hooks, brackets, shelves, and other supports. However, there has long been the need for such a support item which will hold even a very thin or a small article, as a flat ruler, bobby pin, etc., against a board. The applicants novel item supplies the long felt want.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In brief, the present novel apertured panel item comprises a centrally coiled spring and a hook element removably connected into each end. The spring frictionally grips each hook element, which grip tightens upon pulling the hook elements away from each other or upon placing the spring under tension in operative use. The hooks engage spaced holes in a mounting board.
Objects of the invention are to provide an apertured panel item which fulfills the aforesaid long existing need in the art, which can readily operatively be mounted in holes on a board, which conveniently receives and releases various items between the coiled spring and a board, which remains operative for years, which is economical in first purchase and in replacement of individual parts, which has wide adaptability, and which otherwise fulfills the objects and advantages sought therefor.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a view of an apertured panel item incorporating the teachings of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged view thereof, the coiled spring being in cross-section with the central portion thereof being broken away for conservation ofspace;
FIG. 3 is a further enlarged transverse cross-sectional view taken on substantially the line 33 of FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is a view on the same scale as FIG. 3 ofa fragment of one of the hook elements illustrating the spring coil receiving notch;
FIG. 5 is a view of a fragment of an apertured panel, showing the present apertured panel item mounted thereon and supporting a small flat ruler broken away for conservation of space; and
FIG. 6 is a horizontal cross-sectional view taken on substantially the line 6-6 of FIG. 5.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring to the drawings more particularly by reference numerals, 10 indicates generally an apertured panel item incorporating the teachings of the present invention, which includes a central resilient coiled spring 12 and two end hook elements 14, preferably of the generally .I-form shown in the drawings. Each hook element 14 includes legs 16 and 18, each of the former extending into an end of the coiled spring 12 for several coils. Diametrically spaced notches 19 are formed in each leg 16, as illustrated, which receive a coil and resist axial movement therebetween. The portion of each leg 16 extending into a spring end has an external diameter slightly greater than the internal diameter of the spring end so that a good frictional engagement is achieved after working the leg 16 into the spring 12. A further coil tightening effect occurs upon pulling the hook elements 14 outwardly from the spring 12 or upon moving the coiled spring 12 laterally in respect to the hook elements 14, as when operatively supported on a board.
In FIGS. 5 and 6, the pegboard item 10 is illustrated mounted in spaced holes 22 of a apertured panel or mounting board 20. The coiled spring 12 stretched longitudinally to create some article holding tension, may be pulled outwardly from the board 20 and an article, as a flat ruler 24, disposed therebetween. The spring 12 will hold the thinnest of articles as the small ruler 24 illustrated, and will support endless other shaped articles.
FIG. 1 illustrates one apertured panel item 10 substantially to scale. However, shorter or longer springs 12 may be employed, as may hook elements 14 of specifically different configurations.
It is apparent that there has been provided a novel apertured panel item fulfilling the objects and advantages sought.
It is to be understood that the foregoing description and the accompanying drawing have been given by way of illustration and example. It is also to be understood that changes in form of the elements, rearrangement of parts, and substitution of equivalent elements, which will be obvious to those skilled in the art, are contemplated as within the scope of the present invention which is limited only by the claims which follow.
What is claimed is:
1. An item for quick removable attachment in selected apertures of an apertured panel adapted to releasably hold an article on such panel comprising mounting means, and resilient article engaging means connected to said mounting means, said resilient article engaging means being a coiled spring of substantially uniform internal diameter adapted to be disposed generally against a panel when said item is operative ly mounted on an apertured panel, said mounting means including two hooklike formed rigid elements, said element including a first segment extending into an open end of the coiled spring, said first segment including a small generally transversely oriented portion engaged by a short arcuate segment of a single coil of said coiled spring resisting removal of said first segment by axial pulling force on said first segment tending to remove it from within said coiled spring, each element also including a second segment including a terminal part extending angularly to said first segment and formed for quick supporting insertion in and similar reverse removal from an aperture of an apertured panel.
2. The item of claim 1 in which each hooklike element segment extending into an open end of said coiled spring is snugly engaged by the end coils thereof, said coil spring having a rest internal effective diameter a little smaller than the external ef fective diameter of said received element segment for operatively retaining said element segment in said coiled spring, said element having a formed rigid segment adapted to extend into a hole of a holed mounting panel for removable firm support of said item.
3. The item of claim 2 in which each hooklike element segment extending into a spring end includes at least one notch spaced from the free end of said segment and engaged by a spring coil inwardly of the end of said coiled spring effective to increase holding engagement between said coil spring and element segment.
4. The item of claim 1 in which each hooklike element in cludes at least one notch inwardly of the end of said segment engaged by an open end of said coil spring, said notch engaged by a spring coil inwardly of the end of said coiled spring effective to increase holding engagement between said coil spring and element portion.
5. An item for quick removable attachment in selected apertures of an apertured panel adapted to releasably hold an article on such panel comprising mounting means, and resilient article engaging means connected to said mounting means, said resilient article engaging means being a coiled spring of substantially uniform internal diameter adapted to be disposed generally against a panel when said item is operatively mounted on an apertured panel, said mounting means including two hooklike formed rigid elements, each element including a segment extending into an open end of the coiled spring, each element also including a segment formed for quick supporting insertion in and similar reverse removal from an aperture of an apertured panel, each hooklike element segment extending into an open end of said coiled spring being snugly engaged by the end coils thereof, said coil spring having a rest internal effective diameter a little smaller than the external effective diameter of said received element segment for operatively retaining said element segment in said coiled spring said element having a formed rigid segment adapted to extend into a hole of a holed mounting panel for removable firm support of said item, each hooklike element segment ex-

1. An item for quick removable attachment in selected apertures of an apertured panel adapted to releasably hold an article on such panel comprising mounting means, and resilient article engaging means connected to said mounting means, said resilient article engaging means being a coiled spring of substantially uniform internal diameter adapted to be disposed generally against a panel when said item is operatively mounted on an apertured panel, said mounting means including two hooklike formed rigid elements, said element including a first segment extending into an open end of the coiled spring, said first segment including a small generally transversely oriented portion engaged by a short arcuate segment of a single coil of said coiled spring resisting removal of said first segment by axial pulling force on said first segment tending to remove it from within said coiled spring, each element also including a second segment including a terminal part extending angularly to said first segment and formed for quick supporting insertion in and similar reverse removal from an aperture of an apertured panel.
2. The item of claim 1 in which each hooklike element segment extending into an open end of said coiled spring is snugly engaged by the end coils thereof, said coil spring having a rest internal effective diameter a little smaller than the external effective diameter of said received element segment for operatively retaining said element segment in said coiled spring, said element having a formed rigid segment adapted to extend into a hole of a holed mounting panel for removable firm support of said item.

The item of claim 2 in which each hooklike element segment extending into a spring end includes at least one notch spaced from the free end of said segment and engaged by a spring coil inwardly of the end of said coiled spring effective to increase holding engagement between said coil spring and element segment.
4. The item of claim 1 in which each hooklike element includes at least one notch inwardly of the end of said segment engaged by an open end of said coil spring, said notch engaged by a spring coil inwardly of the end of said coiled spring effective to increase holding engagement between said coil spring and element portion.
5. An item for quick removable attachment in selected apertures of An apertured panel adapted to releasably hold an article on such panel comprising mounting means, and resilient article engaging means connected to said mounting means, said resilient article engaging means being a coiled spring of substantially uniform internal diameter adapted to be disposed generally against a panel when said item is operatively mounted on an apertured panel, said mounting means including two hooklike formed rigid elements, each element including a segment extending into an open end of the coiled spring, each element also including a segment formed for quick supporting insertion in and similar reverse removal from an aperture of an apertured panel, each hooklike element segment extending into an open end of said coiled spring being snugly engaged by the end coils thereof, said coil spring having a rest internal effective diameter a little smaller than the external effective diameter of said received element segment for operatively retaining said element segment in said coiled spring said element having a formed rigid segment adapted to extend into a hole of a holed mounting panel for removable firm support of said item, each hooklike element segment extending into a spring end including at least one notch spaced from the free end of said segment and engaged by a spring coil inwardly of the end of said coiled spring effective to increase holding engagement between said coil spring and element segment, said second segment including a part coextensive with said first segment and a terminal part angularly disposed in respect to said coextensive part for mounting in a hole in a panel.
