SULKY-HARROW.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364,483, dated June 7, 1887.

Application filed March 30, 1887.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be itknown that I, NATHANIELT. COLLINS, of Hartford, in the county of Lyon, and in the State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Sulky-Harrow, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved sulk y-harrow which is light and durablcin construction and very effective in operation.

The invention consists in the construction and arrangementof various parts and details,

I and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof this specification,in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.

Figure 1 is a plan view of my improvement, parts being in section; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the. same.

The sulky-whe'els A are mounted on the axles B, which support, by means of the rods B, the frame 0, carrying the drivers seat D and the tongue E, of the usual construction. On the frame G are mounted the two shafts F, each operated independently of the other by alever,G,adapted to be held in anydesired position by engaging it with the notched segment H, secured to the frame 0.

On each shaft F are secured two arms, I, which support the chains J, attached at their lower ends to the harrows K. The harrows K each. consist of the beams L, arranged in diamond shape, the several adjoining beams being hinged together. Each beam L is provided with the usual barrow-teeth of any approved construction. Each of the two harrows K can be enlarged or diminished in width and correspondingly lengthened or shortened longitudinally by the adjustable arms M, secured crosswise by bolts 0 to two adjoining beams, L, in the front and rear. through one of which is passed a respective bolt, 0, thus permitting of increasing or ,diminishing the width of the harrow K, so as to enlarge or decrease the space between the middle inner corners of'the two harrows.

Some of the chains J are secured at their lower ends to the bolts 0. The doubletree P is held in front of the frame 0, and is provided on each end with a downwardly-extending arm, Q, connected by the draft-rod R with its respectiveaxle B, thus producing a very light and equable draft. Two draft-rods, S, connect the lowerends of the arms Q, with the front bolts, 0, so as to hold the respective harrow in place. Each arm Q, is provided in its length with apertures, so as to adjust the draft-rods R and S to suit the condition of the ground over which the harrows travel.

It will be seen that the levers G can be independently adjusted on the notched segments H, thus permitting of raising or lowering the two harrows K independently of each other. Each harrow can be lengthened or shortened and correspondingly enlarged or diminishedin width by adjusting the bolts 0 in the respective aperture N of the arms N, thus increasing the space between the inner middle corners of the harrows according to the size of the row of growing plants between the two harrows.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new,- and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a sulky-harrow, the main wheels A, the axles B,0n which the said wheels are mounted, the rods B, secured to the said axles, and the main frame G,held on the said rods 13, in combination with the doubletree P, the arms Q, held on the said doubletree P, and the adjustable draft-rods R,conuecting the said arms Q with the axles B, substantially as shown and described.
