one can take or administer at will steam, hotair, and shower baths, either separately or collectively; and it consists in the usual closet internally divided into two bathing-compartments one for the body and the other for the feet-so arranged that the temperature may be greater in one department than the other, and provided with perforated floors, a seat, and an upper and an end door. I It also consists in forming in said doors apertures for the passage of the head and arm, so constructed as to preclude the escape of steam. It also consists in introducing into said closets heating-coils for raising the temperature,

steam-distribnters, a movable shower-rose,and

in so connecting the same with externally-arranged supply-pipes provided severally with stop-valves-as to be able to control the temperature and supply; also, in so uniting the steam and water pipes and governing them by a stop-valve that any desired temperature may be attained, all of which is more at length set forth hereinafter.

Figure 1 isalongitudinal vertical section of the closet, showing the internal subdivision, the apertures for the passage of the feet, the perforated floors, a seat for the bather, upper and end doors and the apertures therein, the heatingcoils, steam-ejectors, the shower-rose and connecting-hose, and the external connecting-pipes and the stop-valves by which the supply is regulated; also, two thermometers extending from within the closet. Fig. 2 is-a horizontal section of the same, taken below the floor, showing the heating-coils and steamejectors, together with their external connections, as well as the end door and its opening. Fig. 3 is a perspective of the complete device in operation, showing by dotted lines a person in the bath.

A is the closet proper; A, a fixed portion of the cover, in which are arranged two thermometers, jj.

A is the upper door, being a portion of the closet-cover, constructed and hinged to open and close, and provided with steam-tight joints and aperture 6 to allow the .head to pass through, as seen in Fig. 3, on which is arranged a suitable apron, d, to close around the neck and prevent the escape of the steam, and a hand-hole, f, to allow the arm to protrude to manipulate the stop-cocks. (Seen in'Fig. 1.). This hand-hole is also closed when not in use.

A is the end door, also provided with steamtight joints and a wicket, 70, to admit electrical conductors.

B is a partition within the closet, dividing it into two compartments, one for the feet and the other for the body. pp are apertures in the partition B, to permit passing the feet into the smaller compartment, and the said openings are provided with aprons to shut off the steam to preventits passing from one compartment to the other.

C 0' are floors perforated to permit the steam and heat to pass up into the closets.

D D D are heating-pipes, conductors of either hot air or steam. The coils D and D are supplied from a single pipe, at, provided with a stopvalve, m, and coil D is supplied separately from the main supply-pipe a, pro- .vided with a stop-valve, n, so that the tem:

perature of either of thesecompartments may be raised or lowered at will, or as the necessities may require, without regard to the other.

E E are steam ejectors and distributers, through which -steam is introduced into and distributed in the closet. The ejectorE is supplied with steam through the main pipe G, provided with stop-valve c, and the ejector E is supplied through pipe 0, also provided with a stop-valve, a, so that the supply of steam in the compartments of the closet may be as complctely under the control of the operator as the heat.

F is an elastic or canvas hose, terminating in a shower or distributing rose, F, provided with a stop-cock, a, for regulating the volume, and is connected through the sideof the closet with a cold-water-supply pipe, F provided with a stop-valve, 71. The cold-watersupply pipe F is connected with the main steam-pipe G by transverse pipe i, also provided with a stop-valve, z", so that when so desired steam may be introduced into the cold-water pipe and the shower-bath tempered.

It will be seen that through the heatingcoils, conveying either hot air or steam, the temperature of the interior of the closet may be raised to any degree of heat and a hotair bath alone be administered, or by alternating the hot-air and the cold shower-bath, without leaving the closet, a healthy reaction can be excited; or, omitting the heat, steam of any desired temperature may be introduced and a steam-bath be administered, and here again the shower-bath may be administered without changing position orleaving the closet, or the steam, heat, and shower baths may alternate or be given all at once. It will be ob served that as thehose of the shower-rose is flexible the cold water may be applied to the parts where it is most required without changing the position. It will also be seen that the temperature in that portion of the closet intended for the feet may be raised to a higher degree of heat when desired than that portion designed for the body, or vice versa.

A person may enter the closet by the end door, A and then close and secure that, and after being seated on the seat Z, close down the cover A", passing his head out through the opening 1;, and then, having adjusted the apron d, by reaching out through the hand-hole f, apply and regulate the bath to his own comfort and desire, the thermometers indicating the temperature within the closet; or the bath may be administered by an attendant; ifaphy sician, as suggested by his skill, or if a servant, under the direction of the bather.

Having now fully described my invention, what I esteem as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is

. 1. A bathing-closet comprising two bathingcompartments, one each for the body and feet, separated by a partition having apertures provided with aprons to provide rests for and to admit the passage of the feet.

2. A bathing-closet comprising two bathingeompartments divided by an intersecting partition containing a portal, each having a perforated floor and provided with separate heating-coils and steam-supply pipes, as shown, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. In bathingclosets comprising two bathingcompartments separated by an intersect ing partition containing a portal, each having a perforated floor and a separate heating-coil connected with external steamsupply pipes, as shown, a' flexible hose terminating in a shower-rose for administering a cold showerbath simultaneously with a hot bath, substantiall y as shown and set forth.

4. Bathing closets in two compartments separated by a partition having an aperture and provided with perforated floors O O, in combination with heating coil-pipes D D D, steam-induction pipes G G, flexible hose F, and shower-rose F, the whole constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described.

5. In combination, closet A, provided with doors A A, having openings 1), f, and k, perforated floors O O, partition B, having openings p p, and curtains or aprons, as shown, heating-coils D D D, and eonnecting-pipesm and a and valves m and n, steam-distributers E E, connecting-pipes G and c, and valves 6, a, and 0', also with shower-rose F, flexible hose F, connecting water-pipe F valve I), transverse pipe 2', and valve 2', also with the thermon'ietersj j, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
