Abstract

A device for winding and storing cord of all types. This device includes a frame portion having a handle to which is attached a rotatable frame containing a spool, the spool serving to take up the cord, the bottom portion of the device including a guide wire for guiding the cord as it is wound upon or taken off of the spool. The rotatable frame portion of the device includes a winding handle which allows the cord to be easily wound or unwound from the spool.

This device includes a frame portion having a handle to which is attached a rotatable frame containing a spool, the spool serving to take up the cord, the bottom portion of the device including a guide wire for guiding the cord as it is wound upon or taken offof the spool.
The rotatable frame portion of the device includes a wind- .ing handle which allows the cord to be easily wound or unwound from the spool.

CORD CONTAINING AND WINDING DEVICE This invention relates to cord containing apparatus, and more particularly to a cord containing and winding device.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a cord containing and winding device which will have frame means for rotatably supporting a spool upon which cords of various types may be wound and unwound therefrom.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of the type described which will have handle means for gripping it and a wire guide bail through. which the cord is inserted in order to aid in straightening it when it is being wound and unwound from the reel of the device.
A further object of this invention is to provide a cord containing and winding device which will have a spinner-type handle grip for rotating the spool portion of the device thus allowing the user to wind the cord with a minimum of effort.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a cord containing and winding device which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study 'of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a front view of the present invention shown in elevation and partly broken away; and
FIG. 2 is a side view ofFlG. 1.
According to this invention, a cord containing and winding device is shown to include a bottom arm 1 1 from which extends a wire guide 12 for guiding the cord (not shown). The
bottom arm 1 1 includes an upright portion 13 which is bent to form a handle 14, and a portion 15 extending away from the main body of handle 14.
Portion 15 is freely carried within the recessed portion 16 of an arm member 16, the open end 17 of drum 18 extending over portion 15. The open end 19 of drum 18 extends onto a portion 20 of arm member 20'.
It shall be noted that arm members 16' and 20 are in parallel alignment with each other and serve to mount drum 18 for receiving the cord. An elongated bolt 21 extends through portion 20 of arm member 20, through the axis of the drum 18, through the portion 16 of arm member 16' and also through the portion 15. A nut 22 is received upon bolt 21 between portion 15 of handle 14 and abuts with the recessed portion 16. A nut 23 upon bolt 21 secures arm member 20 to drum 18 at one end and a spacer 24 abuts with portion 15 of handle 14 at one end and abuts with disk 25 at its other end, a nut 26 securing disk 25 in place within handle 14.
A bolt 27 is freely and rotatably received within rotatable handle 28 and handle 28 is spaced apart from arm member 25 by means of a spacer 29 received upon bolt 27, the handle 28 being secured to bolt 27 by means of nut fasteners 30.
in use, the rotatable handle 28 is grasped by the user and is used to rotate drum 18 in order to wind or unwind the cord upon drum 18.
What I now claim is:
l, A cord containing and winding device, comprising in combination, an elongated drum comprising a cylindrical sleeve around a longitudinal central axis, said sleeve having a central opening extending therethrough longitudinally, a rotatable frame carried by said drum, said rotatable frame including a metal strap adjacent each opposite end of said drum and positioned transversely across said axis of said drum, each said strap having an intermediate central portion of U-shaped configuration that extends inwardly into said opening of said drum, each said U-shaped portion having a central opening therethrough, said openings of said straps being in alignment with each other and receiving a bolt for securing said straps together, the extending opposite ends of both said straps forming guides for retaining cord that is wound up around the outer side of said drum, a freely rotatable axial handle carried on one end of said bolt, said axial handle at one end extending radially further from said axis than the opposite end of said axial handle, said axial handle having an L-shaped arm integral therewith, said arm havin a loop at one end thereof to form a wire guide for said cord eing wound upon said drum,
and one of said straps secured to an opposite end of said bolt being provided with a freely rotatable eccentrically mounted handle.

Claims (1)

1. A cord containing and winding device, compRising in combination, an elongated drum comprising a cylindrical sleeve around a longitudinal central axis, said sleeve having a central opening extending therethrough longitudinally, a rotatable frame carried by said drum, said rotatable frame including a metal strap adjacent each opposite end of said drum and positioned transversely across said axis of said drum, each said strap having an intermediate central portion of U-shaped configuration that extends inwardly into said opening of said drum, each said U-shaped portion having a central opening therethrough, said openings of said straps being in alignment with each other and receiving a bolt for securing said straps together, the extending opposite ends of both said straps forming guides for retaining cord that is wound up around the outer side of said drum, a freely rotatable axial handle carried on one end of said bolt, said axial handle at one end extending radially further from said axis than the opposite end of said axial handle, said axial handle having an L-shaped arm integral therewith, said arm having a loop at one end thereof to form a wire guide for said cord being wound upon said drum, and one of said straps secured to an opposite end of said bolt being provided with a freely rotatable eccentrically mounted handle.
