It is therefore the primary purpose of this invention to provide an electric cigarette lighter which will utilize the conventional automobile lighter and receptacle combination, a transformer to accommodate the lighter.
Another object of this invention is to provide a cigarette lighter which will be easy to operate and will require little or no maintenance as does the lighters of the prior art.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide an electrical cigarette lighter which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention; and
FIG. 2 is a schematic wiring diagram of the invention.
According to this invention, a cigarette lighter is shown to include a case 11 which may be ornamental in appearance if desired. Lighter 10 includes a push-type on-off switch 12 and a neon lamp 13 which serves to indicate when the device is on. A conventional automobile lighter 14 and its associated receptacle 15 extend from case 11, lighter 14 having the heating element I7 which when heated is thermostatically released causing lighter 14 to extend outwards of receptacle 15 after it has been pushed downward in order to close the circuit to the heating element 17.
Looking at FIG. 2 of the drawing one will see a transformer 19 which serves to step down the voltage for the operation of lighter 14. The device 10 also included a grounding plug 18 which is plugged into a suitable receptacle or electrical outlet. The grounding connection on the secondary winding of transformer l9 and the case 11 serves to remove any possible shock hazard should any portion of the primary winding of transformer 19 short to the case ll or lighter 14. It shall be noted that case 11 may be of any shape configuration desired and the plug 18 may be made part of the device 10 thus enabling the device 10 to be useful at any counter-height outlet such as may be found in the kitchen, workshop or laboratory.
What I now claim is:
1. An electrically operated cigarette and cigar lighter, comprising in combination, a case, a thermostatically controlled heating element in an electrical circuit with a transformer for step down voltage purposes, a neon pilot lamp, and an on and off switch, all of which are carried by said case, and plug means carried by said device for insertion into a house electric socket, a push in type lighter unit extending from said casing and being received within a receptacle secured to a surface of said case, said heating element being carried by said push-intype lighter unit and being activated when said lighter unit is pushed downwardly into said receptacle, a voltage to said heating element being supplied by a step down secondary winding of said transformer, the primary winding of said transformer being in series with said on and off switch, said on and off switch serving to activate said device, said switch when turned to an on position, causing said neon lamp to become lighted, said neon lamp being connected in parallel circuit across said primary winding of said transformer, said lighter unit when activated in a pushed downward position being connected in parallel circuit across the secondary winding of said transformer, and said primary winding of said transformer being connected to the voltage received through said plugged means, and said secondary winding of said transformer being connected to a ground to prevent possible shock to a person using said device.
