BOOT-STRAP.

To all whom it may concern,.-

Be it known that I, FREDERTGK R. HAMIL- TON, of Bath, in the county of Steuben and State useful Improvementin BootStraps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in bootstraps; and it consists in, first, the combination .of a doublestudded button, which is passed through the leg of the boot or other material, with a ring having two slotted prongs, which catch over the button and secure the ring in position; second, the combination of a double studded button, which is passed through the leg of the boot or other material, with a ring having` two slotted prongs which catch over the studs, and which prongs are provided upon their inner sides withv lugs which embed themselves in the material, and thus hold the strap or ring in place, as will bemore fully described hereinafter.

The object of my invention is to provide a strap for boots and other objects, and which can be readily and quickly applied without sewing or stitching, and which can be quickly removed and replaced at will.

A represents a button or plate, which is provided with the two headed studs B. These studs are made j ust long enough to pass through the material which forms the boot-leg and to receive the strap or ring upon the other side. Suitable openings are to be cut through the material to which the strap is to be applied, and then these studs B are passed through these openings, ready to receive the strap, as shown. The button or plate serves to support the studs and prevent them from being drawn through the material.

projecting downward from one side, and through each of these prongs is made a slot, G, of suitable length. These slots are enlarged at their upper ends just sufficiently to allow the heads of the studs to pass freely through; but the lower portions of the slots are only wide enough to receive the Shanks of the studs. Upon the inside of each one of the shanks are formed one or more anges, I, which are beveled away at their upper ends, and which serve to sink into the material, so as to prevent the strap or ring from sinking downward and becoming detached. rIhe lower ends of the prongs are made thicker than at the upper portions,. and hence the prongs act as cams against the heads of thestuds, for the purpose of. forcing the flanges into the material. After the strap or ring has been pulled upward upon the studs the anges serve to prevent the strap from working loose and moving downward upon them.

The straps or rings may be made from metal, or any other material which is adapted for the purpose.

Having thus described my invention, YI claim* l. A strap for boots or other articles, composed of the detachable plate A, which is provided with the two headed studs B, in combination with a ring or strap provided with slotted prongs to receive the studs, substantially as shown.

2. The combination ofthe plate A, provided with the headed studs B, with astrap or ring provided with slotted prongs, which are provided with flanges I upon their inner sides, substantially as described.

3. The combination of the plate A, provided with the headed studs B, with the ring or strap provided with slotted prongs, which are made thickest at their lower ends, and provided with flanges I upon their inner sides to bite into the material, substantially as set forth.
