Abstract
A BRACKET ATTACHABLE TO A LADDER SO THAT THE LADDER MAY BE SUPPORTED FROM A RIDGE OF A ROOF, THE RIDGE BRACKET INCLUDING A HOLDING BAR, A REINFORCEMENT BAR, A U BRACKET, A HOOP SLIDE AND A WING NUT BOLT.
Description
RIDGE LADDER BRACKET Filed April 23, 1969 United States Patent 3,606,226 RIDGE LADDER BRACKET Wesley V. Bell, Sr., 3804 S. Randolph St., Indianapolis, Ind. 46227 Filed Apr. 23, 1969, Ser. No. 818,693 Int. Cl. E04g 3/12; F06c 1/36 US. Cl. 248--237 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates generally to ladder attachments. More specifically it relates to hardware for ridge ladders.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a bracket for a ridge ladder and wherein the bracket will permit the ladder to be safely secured over the ridge of a roof of a house.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a ridge ladder bracket which is small and light in weight and which can be easily carried in a car or trunk of an automotive vehicle.
Yet a further object is to provide a ridge ladder bracket which will fit any straight ladder or extension.
Yet a further object is to provide a ridge ladder bracket which can be quickly and conveniently attached to a ladder.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a ridge ladder bracket wherein there is a loop that is on the top so the device may be used to slide on a roof and which will not in any way damage the roof.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a ridge ladder bracket which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efiicient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a side elevation view of the present invention,
FIG. 2 is a front view thereof, and
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the present invention shown in operative use on a ladder supported from a roof ridge.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral 10 represents a ridge ladder bracket according to the present invention wherein there is a holding bar 11 which includes a pair of legs 1'2 at right angles to each other and made from a singular metal bar, one of the legs 12 having a hook 13 formed at one end thereof for the purpose of grasping around a rung 14 of a ladder 15.
A reinforcing bar 16 is made of a relatively heavier strap of metal, the reinforcing bar having a pair of legs 17 and 18 at right angles to each other. The reinforcing bar 16 is secured to the holding bar 11 by means of a plurality of rivets 19, as shown in FIG. 1 of the drawing.
ice
A hoop slide 20 is secured upon an outer side of the holding bar 11, the hoop slide comprising a relatively large diameter loop which will permit the ladder to be turned over and to slide down along a roof 21 without damage to the roof when thus sliding down the roof. The hoop slide 20 is accordingly rigid with the holding bar.
A U bracket 22 is secured upon the upper side of the holding bar 11' adjacent the hoop slide 20, the U bracket 22 being secured to the holding bar 11 by means of a bolt 23 and a wing nut 24. The U bracket 22 includes a semi-circular loop 2'5 which is receivable around an uppermost rung 26 of the ladder 15.
In use, the present ridge ladder bracket is readily secured to the ladder 15 in a quick manner after which the ladder may be made to slide upon the roof of a house by allowing the hoop slide 20 to be upon its down position so to serve as a skid and thus allowing the ladder to be moved with minimum friction across the roof surface. When the ladder is positioned at the ridge 127 of the house, the ladder is turned over thus allowing the reinforcing bar 16 to grasp over the ridge 27 of the house roof. In this position, the bracket will safely support the ladder from the roof ridge.
What I now claim is:
1. In a ridge ladder bracket the combination of an assembly attachable to a ladder for safely securing said ladder across a ridge of a roof, said assembly including a holding bar, a reinforcing bar, a hoop slide, a U bracket and a bolt and wing nut, said holding bar comprising a metal strap consisting of a pair of legs at right angles to each other, one end of said holding bar having a hoop form integral therewith, said hoop being adaptable for grasping a second rung adjacent an endmost first rung at one end of said ladder, said reinforcing bar comprising a relatively heavier strap of metal, said reinforcing bar consisting of a pair of legs at right angles to each other, said reinforcing bar being secured to said holding bar by a plurality of rivets extending therethrough, said hoop slide comprising a relatively large diameter strap secured upon the upper side of said holding bar straddling a bend formed between said legs of said holding bar, said hoop slide serving as a skid for said ladder.
'2. The combination as set forth in claim 1, wherein said U-shaped bracket comprises a strap of metal removeably securable upon the upper side of said holding bar adjacent said hoop slide, said U-shaped bracket having a semi-circular hook adaptable for grasping an uppermost rung of said ladder, and said U-shaped bracket being securable to said holding bar by a bolt and a wing nut.
