Be it known that I, GUSTAV BOEGLER, a subject ofthe Grand Duke of Baden, and a resident at Carlsruhe, Baden, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bathing-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved stove for heating water for bathing or other purposes, and also for heating rooms.
The invention consists of a boiler mounted above the fire-place and provided with a central conical compartment having a downwardly extending fine and provided with water-circulating pipes.
The invention also consists of various parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a sectional plan View of the same on the line a a, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the valve.
The stove consists, principally, of the boiler A, mounted upon the lower part, 13, provided with a fire-place, 0, above the grate-bars C, of any approved construction. A door, C leads to the fireplace G and to the gratebars G, and an ash-pan, c, is arranged below the said gratebars G in the usual manner. In the boiler A is placed a conical compartment, D, which is closed on top by the cap (2 and is open at its base, which is securely fastened to the lower end of the boiler A, so that the fireplace 0 opens directly into the compartment D.
On the inside of the compartment D is arranged the smoke-flue E, which leads from near the top of said compartment downward to the exit-flue F, connected with the chimney or other means of exit. A horizontal waterpipe, 9, passes through the boiler A and into the interior of the compartment D, and opens into the curved pipe H, fastened to and conforming to the shape of the suioke-flueE. The lower end of the pipe H leads into the flat circular vessel K, placed in the base of the compartment D directly above the fire-place C, and from which extends a horizontal pipe, 7r, which passes to the outside of the boiler A, and is provided with a stop-cock on the outside. The upwardly-extending pipe L also connects with the vessel K and passes through the compartment D, and out of the same through the cap (I and into the boiler A.
To the upper end of the pipe L is secured the spray-nozzle M, and a short distance below the same enters the pipe N, which passes upward through the boiler cover or lid R, and is provided with a two-way cock, at, operated from the outside of the boiler A by means of a handle, at. The outer part of the waterpipeg is provided with a cook or valve, G, and an inlet-pipe, g, which is connected by a rubber hose or other means with the watersupply.
An outlet-pipe, Q, having a valve or cook, q, is secured to the boiler A near its bottom, and an overflow-pipe, P, is arranged in the interior of the boiler A and connects at its lower end, on the outside of the boilerA,with the pipe Q in front of the valve or cook q.
The operation is as follows: The heat from the fireplace 0 passes inward into the conical compartment D and around the pipes g,H,aud L, and also around the fiat circular vessel K, whereby the water, which circulates through the said pipes and the vessel K, is thoroughly and quickly heated. The gases and smoke from the fire-place 0 pass to the upper end of the-compartment D and down into the flue E, and are finally discharged into the chimney by the connecting-pipe F. The water to be heated enters by the pipe g into the pipe G, and thence flows downward through thepipe H, which isheated on all sides by the heat in thcin terior of the compartment D and by the smoke and gases passing down the flue E on their way to the chimney. The water then enters the circular vessel K, from which it passes upward-when the cock in the pipe k is closedand finally discharges into the boiler A through the spray-nozzle M, from which the water drops upon the heated cap (Z of the compartment D.

When sufficient water has accumulated in the boiler A, it can be drawn off by opening the valve or cock q in the pipe Q, which connects with the bath-tub or other receptacle in any suitable manner. The water above the overflow-pipe P is also discharged into the pipe Q, so that the water-level in the boilerA willnot be above the upper end of the overflow-pipe P. The water can also be drawn off directly from the vessel K by opening the cock in the pipe 7c. When the cock is is closed and the cock m turned to close communication between the pipe L and nozzle M, communication will be established between the pipes L N, and the pressure of the water entering the apparatus will cause it to rise in the pipe N, the height to which it will rise in the pipe varying according to the pressure with which the water is forced into the apparatus. By this means ,by admitting the water to the apparatus under great pressure,it can be discharged from the pipe N for a douche or for other purposes.
It will be seen that the stove heats the water thoroughly in a very short time and also dis charges considerable heat into the room in which the stove is located without permitting any steam or unhealthy gases to escape into the room. The bursting of the pipes in the stove in consequence of the steam-condensation cannot take place, as the water has continuous circulation.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a heating apparatus, the combination, with the boiler and the fire-place below the same, of the conical compartment provided withthe downwardly-extending flue and watercirculating pipes arranged in said conical compartment, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a heating apparatus, the boiler A, the fire-place below the said boiler, and the conical compartment D, provided with the outletfiue E, in combination with a water-circulating pipe consisting of the pipes g, H, and L, and the vessel K, substantially as shown and described. 1 e
3. In a heating apparatus, the boiler A, the
fire-place 0 below the said boiler, and the conical compartment D, having the flue E, in combination with the pipes g and H, the vessel K, connected with the pipe H, and the pipe 70, having a stop-cock, substantlally as shown and described.
4. In a heating apparatus, the boiler A and the conical compartment D, having the flue E, in combination with the pipes g, H, and L, the vessel K, and the spray-nozzle M, substantially as shown and described.
5. In a heating apparatus, the pipes g, H,
and L, and the vessel K, in combination with the pipe 70, having astop-cock, the pipe N and the two-way'cock m, operated from the outside of the boiler A, substantially as shown and described.
6. In a'heating apparatus, the boiler A, the conical compartment D, having the flue E, and a water-circulatin g pipe consisting of the p1 pes g, H, and L, and the vessel K, in combination with the outlet-pipe Q, having the cock q and the overflow-pipe P entering the said pipe Q, substantially as shown and described.
7. In a heating apparatus, the boiler A, 111 combination with the outlet-pipe Q, having the stop-cock q, and the overflow-pipe P entering at its lower end into the said pipe Q in front of the cock q, substantially as shown and described. 7
8. In a heating apparatus, the boiler A, the conical compartment D, having the flue E, the pipe Q, having a stop-cock, q, and the overflow-pipe I, connected with the pipe Q, in combination with the pipe 9, having the stopcock G, the pipe H, the vessel K, the pipe 70,
having a stop-cock, the pipeL, provided with the spray-nozzle M, and the pipe N, leading from the pipe L and provided with the two way cock m, substantially as shown and described.
