Abstract

A lamp having an image or picture which is illuminated when the lamp is lit. The lamp can be used as a night light or a television lamp.

United States Patent [72] Inventor [22] Filed [54] TELEVISION AND NIGHT LIGHT TELEVISION AND NIGHT LIGHT SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A hollow chamber with a front opening has all inner surfaces lined with a reflecting foil. A picture or image is removably disposed behind the opening. An electric light bulb is disposed in a socket in the chamber, the socket being adapted to be connected through an on-off switch to a source of electric power. When the bulb is lit, there is sufficient light to illuminate the picture or image and, at the same time, act as a night light without glare.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS In the drawings:

FIG. 3 is an end view thereof.

Referring to the drawings my invention comprises a housing 2 mounted on a base 14 covered with a felt lining 10. The housing 2 includes a lower chamber enclosing a lamp socket 5 retained by a bracket 12 longitudinally in said lower chamber and extending from one side thereof to approximately the center of the chamber. A switch 9 is connected to the socket and extends externally from said chamber. Electrical power to the socket may be provided by a cord adapted to be plugged into a source of electricity. A candelabra lamp bulb 6 is mounted in the socket at the center of the chamber. The roof of said chamber is enclosed with a transverse tinted glass plate 4.

Above the plate 4 and the lower chamber is provided an upper chamber of rectangular cross section having a rear panel 8 that also is the rear panel of the lower chamber. The rear panel 16, the sides and ceiling of the upper chamber is lined with a reflecting foil 13 that directs light from lamp 6 to a transparent colorless front plate 1, thereby providing light therethrough for night light purpose. Holes 16 may be provided in the panel 8 both above and below plate 4, to vent excessive heat build up in the chambers.

A decorative object such as an animal 3 is provided on the portion of base 14 that projects in front of the said chambers.

To provide a more decorative effect a glossy picture card 7 can be removably mounted in the upper chamber in a curved configuration behind the lamp in a transverse direction as shown by the dotted line in FIG. 1. In addition the aesthetic effect can be enhanced by placing other decorative features such as animals, stones, flowers, etc., in front of the card in a manner permitting passage of sufficient light through plate 4.

When the night light is used with the picture card, the glossy card front reflects light through front plate 1 instead of the foil portion on panel 18 that is obscured by the card. When the picture card is not used, then the foil functions to focus light through the front plate.

It should be noted that either the foil or the picture card or both are located symmetrically about the light source and thus focus light efficient through the front plate.

Rear panel 8 is removable to permit removal of the post card as well as for access to the lamp and associated components.

While 1 have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, my protection is to be limited only by the terms of the claims which follow.

I claim:

1. A night light comprising an upper and lower chamber separated by a transverse transparent plate, said lower chamber enclosing a lamp mounted in the center of said chamber, in combination with a picture card mounted in the upper chamber transversely behind the lamp, including a transparent front plate positioned transversely in front of the card and lamp, said card being longitudinally curved to focus light from the lamp transversely through the front plate, said chambers being mounted on a base having a portion extending transversely In front of the front plate,

Including a decorative object mounted on said portion.

2. A light as in claim 1 wherein the said chambers include a removable rear panel lined with reflective foil and having vent holes.

Claims (2)

1. A night light comprising an upper and lower chamber separated by a transverse transparent plate, said lower chamber enclosing a lamp mounted in the center of said chamber, in combination with a picture card mounted in the upper chamber transversely behind the lamp, including a transparent front plate positioned transversely in front of the card and lamp, said card being longitudinally curved to focus light from the lamp transversely through the front plate, said chambers being mounted on a base having a portion extending transversely in front of the front plate, including a decorative object mounted on said portion.

2. A light as in claim 1 wherein the said chambers include a removable rear panel lined with reflective foil and having vent holes.
