Favors Attorney-Spencer & Kaye ABSTRACT: The specification describes a candle in which the wick is axially displaceable in the wax candle body to adjust the length of that part of the wick which extends above the CANDLE The present invention relates to candles. in known candles, the wick is immovably fixed in the body of the candle. If that part of the wick which projects from the top of the candle body is bumt-off too much, wax has to be removed in order to expose as much wick as is necessary for producing a satisfactory flame fonnation. This is relatively laborious, and often causes damage to the candle body. The object of the invention is to of candle.
According to the invention there is provided a candle comprising a candle body having an axial bore therein in which the wick is axially displaceable and extends beyond the upper end thereof. If the upper projecting part of the wick is too short, the wick can be drawn or pushed out of the candle body to the desired length with a candle proposed by the present invention. If for some reason the upper projecting part of the wick is too long, so that the flame burns in a sooty fashion, the wick can be drawn or pushed back into the candle body until the length of the projecting part of the wick is reduced to the desired value. Thus, when using the candle according to the present invention, it is no longer necessary to cut off the wick and to use special wick shears, as has hitherto been necessary.
In order to enable the wick to be handled easily for varying the length of its burning part, it is convenient to make the wick project below the lower end of the bore. A recess can be provided at the underside of the candle body to receive the projecting wick part, which is folded-over laterally.
In order that the invention may more readily be understood, the following description is given, merely by way of example, reference being made to the accompanying drawing, in which provide an improved form the sole FIGURE is a vertical cross section through one example of candle according to the invention.
In the candle body 1 of one continuous piece of wax there is formed an axial bore 2 which extends over the entire length of the candle and in which a self supporting wick 3 is displaceably arranged. The wick projects from the bore 2 at the underside thereof, and is folded over laterally in a recess 4 provided at the bottom of the candle body 1.
After the candle is extinguished, the wick is expediently moved to-and-fro a few times shortly before the candle wax solidifies, in order to ensure that the wick remains freely displaceable within the bore 2.
lclaim:
l. A candle comprising, in combination:
a. a candle body of one continuous piece of wax;
b. an upper and a lower end to said body;
c. means defining an axial bore in said body; and
d. a wick axially displaceable in said body and extending above the end of said body.
2. A candle as claimed in claim 1 wherein a portion of said wick extends below said bore at the lower end of said body.
3. A candle as claimed in claim 2, and further comprising a recess defined in said candle body at the lower end of said body effective to accommodate said portion of said wick.
4. A candle as claimed in claim 1, wherein a portion of said wick extends below said bore at the lower end of said body, and wherein a recess is defined in said candle body at the lower end of said body effective to accommodate said portion of said wick.
5. A candle as claimed in claim 1, said wick being self-supporting

Claims (5)

1. A candle comprising, in combination: A. A CANDLE BODY OF ONE CONTINUOUS PIECE OF WAX; B. AN UPPER AND A LOWER END TO SAID BODY; C. MEANS DEFINING AN AXIAL BORE IN SAID BODY; AND D.
