Also there may be [56] References cued provided a hedge member arrangement disposed along each UNITED STATES PATENTS side of the golf swing to aid in the practice swing to take the 2,790,640 4/1957 Hoag 273/195 (A) club head back in a straight line.
GOLF PRACTICE DEVICE The present invention relates to a teaching and improvement device for golfers in which a straight swing plastic practice golfing green arrangement is provided, and more particularly relates to a straight swing plastic practice green that is integrally manufactured and used as an aid for all aged golfers.
A main object of the practice green is to teach a golfer to take the club head back in a straight line, then swing straight forward through a -inch opening, or the like, between a pair of hedges adjacent the line of swing. By learning to swing straight through such opening without coming in contact with either of the pair of hedges, the golfer will eliminate hooking and slicing the ball'if the club head comes squarely in contact with the golf ball mounted upon the golf tee.
A further object of the invention is to provide straight swing plastic practice greens that are manufactured either for the lefthanded or the right-handed golfer.
The invention further pertains to construction of a truncated or inclined pair of hedge members mounted adjacent a swing-line, and in which the hedges are made to resemble a close-grass clamp.
It is within the purview of the invention to use either a green plastic tee or a regular tee, and also to use a plastic or real golf ball. The footing portion of the base member may be roughed up to provide sure-footing for the golfer.
The above and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent upon full consideration of the following detailed description and accompanying drawings in which:
F IG. 1 is a plan view of the plastic practice golfing green apparatus of the invention;
H6. 2 is a generally perspective view thereof taken from a front position wherein a golfer (not shown) would stand on the base member;
PK]. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along lines 3-3 of FIG. 2; and
FlG. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken along lines 4-4 of FIG. 2, according to the preferred embodiment of the invention.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a straight swing plastic practice golfing green having a rectangular base member 12, a roughed flat portion 14 upon which a golfer may stand and a plastic grass portion 16 extending throughout the remainder portion of the base member 12. A straight-swing plastic line 18 is disposed and may be of white or light coloring and is mounted transversing the plastic grass portion, as shown. A green plastic tee 20 is made integrally with the base 12, and there may be a ball 22 mounted thereon for teaching and practicing a straight swing.
Disposed upon each side of the plastic line 18, there is a pair of truncated or inclined hedge members 30, 32 for achieving the objects of the invention, which include providing learning means to aid a golfer in swinging straight through the 5 -inch or approximate distance of the opening between the hedge members, so that the golf club head does not come in contact with either of the hedges. The golfer will thus eliminate hooking and slicing as the club comes squarely in contact with the golf ball 22 on the tee 20.
The purpose, therefore, of the invention is to teach and aid the instruction of a golfer to take the club head back in a straight line and in substantial alignment with the plastic line 18, and then swing straight through the opening disposed between the pair of hedge members 30, 32.
There is further provided a pair of holes 40, 41 which are disposed in the corners of the base member 12 to provide base supporting of the base member from a gymnasium floor and the like. Disposed under the base member are support ridges 50 and spaces 52 between the ridges 50, as shown in FIGS. 3 and 4.
Additional embodimentsof the invention in this specification will occur to others and therefore it is intended that the true spirit of the invention be limited only by the appended claims and not by the embodiment described hereinaboye. Accordingly, reference should be made to the following claims in determining the true spirit of the invention.
What I claim is:
l. Apparatus enabling a golfer to practice his swing, comprising a rectangular base member having a substantially flat portion for providing footing for a golfer, a layer of plastic grass extending from the top surface of said base member adjacent said substantially flat portion, a flat plastic strip located over the top of said plastic grass layer and having alongitudinal axis parallel with the boundary line formed by the abutting plastic grass layer and, substantially flat portion, golf tee extending above the surface of said plastic strip, and a pair of hedge members each extending above said layer of plastic grass and parallel with and near each longitudinal side of said plastic strip and in front of said tee necessitating that a golf club be swung to hit a ball from the tee in a vertical plane between said hedge members substantially parallel with said hedge members.
2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said plastic grass layer and said plastic strip have vertically aligned holes, said tee being integrally manufactured with and extending from the top surface of said base member through said holes.

Claims (2)

1. Apparatus enabling a golfer to practice his swing, comprising a rectangular base member having a substantially flat portion for providing footing for a golfer, a layer of plastic grass extending from the top surface of said base member adjacent said substantially flat portion, a flat plastic strip located over the top of said plastic grass layer and having a longitudinal axis parallel with the boundary line formed by the abutting plastic grass layer and substantially flat portion, golf tee extending above the surface of said plastic strip, and a pair of hedge members each extending above said layer of plastic grass and parallel with and near each longitudinal side of said plastic strip and in front of said tee necessitating that a golf club be swung to hit a ball from the tee in a vertical plane between said hedge members substantially parallel with said hedge members.
2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said plastic grass layer and said plastic strip have vertically aligned holes, said tee being integrally manufactured with and extending from the top surface of said base member through said holes.
