XVILLIAM T. DECKER, OF LEHIGH TANNEBY, PENNSYLVANIA.
MOWING MACHINE CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 35 6,574, dated January 25, 1887.
Application filed July 22, 1886. Serial No. 208,722. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it viz/any concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM T. DECKER, of Lehigh Tannery, in the county of Carbon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Mowing- Machine Gutter, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figurel is a plan view of myimproved mowing-machine cutter, showing devices for connecting it with the cutter-bar. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section taken on line a: :0 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective viewof one of the eccentric studs. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the eccentric washers, and Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the countersunk washers Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and eflectivedevice for securing the cutter-sections of niowingmachines to the cutterbars, sothat they may be readily applied and removed for sharpening and repairs.
My invention consists in a cutter-bar pro vided with series of revoluble studs having eccentric edges, and series of eccentric washers placed on the studs, the studs being secured in holes in the cutterbar at suitable distances apart for receiving the cutter-sections, and in the combination therewith of cutter-sections having apertures and shoulders for engage,
ment by the fasteners, all as hereinafter more fully described.
The cutter-bar A is provided at suitable intervals with holes, in which are placed studs B, having shouldersa, which bear upon the upper surface of the bar. Each stud B is provided with a hat eccentric head, I). The holes in the cutter-bar in which the studs B are inserted are counterbored to receive the couir tersunk washers 2', and the lower ends of the studs are riveted in the said washers. Upon each stud B, between the eccentric head I; and theupper surface of the cutter-bar A, is placed an eccentric washer, c, which corresponds in size with the eccentric head I) of the stud'B. Each head I) is provided in one edge with a V-shaped notch, d, and is pierced near its oppositeedge with a hole, 6, the notch d and hole a serving to receive the wrench by which the stud Bis turned.
The studs B are arranged in pairs at suitable distances apart for receiving the cutter sections 0. The cutter-sections C- are stamped orswaged, and provided with apertures f, near opposite edges at the heel of the cutter, and between the apertures f there is an elevated portion, 9, having in opposite edges concave recesses h, for receiving the eccentric heads 2) of the studs B. The cuttersections 0 are placed in position on the cutter-bar A, when the eccentric heads 1) correspond in position with the eccentric washers c. The cutter is secured in the position of use by turning the studs B so as to cause the eccentric heads b to reach over the upper surface of the cutter and bear against the edges of the elevated portion g. Arranged in this way the cutter section may be readily placed in position and firmly secured, and it may be easily released from the cutter-bar and removed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is-
1. The combination, with the cutter bar A, of series of studs B, provided with eccentric heads Z), series of eccentric washers c, placed on the studs B, between the eccentric heads I) and the cutterbar A, and cutter-sections 0, having apertures f, adapted to receive the cocentric heads]; and washers e, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of the bar A, the studs B, provided with shoulders a and eccentric heads b, the eccentric washers c, placed on the studs B, between the eccentric heads I) and cutter-bar A, and cutter sections 0, provided with apertures f, and the elevated portion g, having concave edges h, substantially as shown and described.
WILLIAM 'r. DECKER.
