H. T. HOLZHALB.
CLOTHES RAGK'FOR WARDROBES.
No. 356,125. Patented Jan. 18, 1887.
35 4 1 GHFOLHQAd/W Nrrn STATES HERMAN T. HOLZHALB, on CINCINNATI, oHIoQ.
CLOTH ES- RACK FDR WARDROBES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 356,125, dated January 18, 1887.
Application filed November 15, 1886. Serial No. 218,906.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERMAN T. HOLZHALB, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes Racks for \Vardrobes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved clothes-rack for wardrobes. Its object is a convenient device for attachment to wardrobe shelves, whereby any garment or garment-hook may readily be reached without disturbing the other garments.
The invention will be first fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings, and then particularly referred to and pointed out in the claims. a
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved device secured to a wardrobe-shelf, which is shown in vertical transverse section. In this view the sliding rack or hook-carrier is shown partially drawn out. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the rack-carrier. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the sliding hook carrier. Fig. 4 is a slide elevation of the same, but provided with a yoke to receive garment-holders, instead of the wooden strip for receiving the screw-shanks of the common garment-hooks. Fig. 5 is a transverse section of the completed device, taken through line :0 x of Fig. 1.
Referring to the parts, which are represented by like reference-letters wherever they occur throughout the various views, A represents the shelf of a wardrobe, B a light east-metal shell secured to the shelf by screws which pass through the webs b. This shell is provided with lateral flanges b, which extend from the rear end to within a short distance of the front, where they terminate in upward bends 11 which serve as stops to prevent the sliding carriage from being drawn out of its bearings. The front end of the sliding carriage B is provided at its front end with wheels 0, upon which the flat metal plate D of the carriage, Figs. 3 and 4, rests. Projecting down from the rear end of the plate D, and upon opposite sides, are angle-pieces D. These are (No model.)
cast with the plate and provide bearings for the wheels 0, which wheels rest upon the angle-flange b of the track B, and, with the wheels 0, support the carriage and guide it horizontally in its forward movement.
As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the plate D has secured to it a wooden bar, E, into which the screw-shanks of the ordinary clothes-hooks F (shown broken off in Fig. 1) are driven. In Fig. 4 the wire yoke'G, to support the ordinary garment-holders H, is substituted for the hook-bar E. It is intended to use both forms in the same wardrobe, so as to conveniently provide for all kinds of garments.
After parts are prepared, as shown in Figs.
2, 3, and 4, they are put together, as in Figs. 1 and 5, by sliding the forward end of the carriage, Figs. 3 and 4, into place from the rear end of the track B, Fig. 2, the plate sliding underneath the webs b, and over the rollers C, the sides or vertical parts of the pieces b pass between the sides "of the rollers O and the inner sides of the wheels 0, the flanges I) passing under the said wheels. The device is now ready to be secured to the shelf A.
The hook I, which is secured to the front of piece E, is for the purpose of drawing the carriage out. \Vhen the yoke G is used, the hook is not necessary, as the front of the yoke answers the same purpose.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, substantially as specified, of the piece 13 22, arranged for attachment to the shelf A, and having wheels 0, and flange b with the plate D, having angles D, wheels 0, and garment-supports depending from said plate.
2. As a new article of manufacture, the
' Wardrobe-racks, consisting of the shell B b b and wheels 0, and plate D D and wheels 0, constructed to operate together, substantially as specified.
HERMAN T. HOLZHALB.
