Description

PATENT @FFICEQ FREDRIK JOHNSON, F BR OKLYN, NEW YORK.
TOPICAL REMEDY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 355,824, dated January 11, 188'].
Application filed Fobruary lO, 1886.
which the following is a specification.
.The object 'of my invention is to furnish a reliable antiseptic and curative compound which may be kept an indefinite length of time without deterioratiom'and valuable not only as a dentifrice and restorative wash or lotion, but also as a healing agent for wounds, contusions, sprains, burns, inflamed and watery eyes, earache, frost-bites, gonorrhea, &c., and, when taken internally in the earlier stages of the disease, a preventive and on re also for some contagious maladies, such as small-pox, &c. i
The compound consists. of boracic acid, permanganate of potash, and alum. The relative proportions of these ingredients may be varied for different uses; butthe following I have found to answer best for general purposes by varying simply the strength of the compound by more or less dilution, the color of the per manganate of potash when dissolved being a ready and sufficiently reliable indicator of the strength of the solution.
The bulk of the permanganate ofpotash be- Scrial No. 191.449. (No specimens.)
ing larger in proportion to its Weight than those of the other ingredients, I prefer to determine the quantities by weight.
Thepreferred proportions are: boracic acid, one hundred parts; permanganate of potash, threeparts; alum, ten parts. These are finely powdered and mixed together in a dry state; but it is best to mix them first and then powder and grind them together, as thisinsures a most thorough intermingling of the particles.
The compound is kept in powder form and only dissolved in Water immediately before using. It dissolves easily, and may bereadily diluted to any degree desired.
1 am aware that mixtures of boracio acid and alum, and of alum and permanganate ot' potash, are not new, and I do not claim them.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure bv Letters Patent- A powdered mixture composed of boracic acid, permanganate of potash, and alum, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 3d day of February, 1886. v
FREDRIK JOHNSON. Witnesses:
A. WV. ALM vIs'r, JEAN A. JOHNSON.
