Description
UNITED -STATES PATENT 'OFFICE'. -f
EMMT'I C. GRANT, OF FARMER VILLAGE, YORK.
BUCKLE-PLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming parto! Llei-.ters Patent N o. 355,763, dated January 11, 1887.
Application filed April 3 0, 1886. Serial No. 200,692. (No model.)
My invention relates to certain improvements in the manner of attaching buckles and loops to harness-straps, and it is designed to produce a simple and inexpensive device for effectively. securing the buckle to the strap, and which at the same time will form a fastening and bearing-plate for one or more strapretaining'loops or keepers, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The invention consists of a metallic plate bent -transversely about midway its length, and provided with two or more rivet-holes for the passage of rivets when securing it to the strap. This metallic plate is approximately the same width as the strap to which it is attached, and is secured to the under side of the same, so that a portion of it will overlap and' protect the folded end of the strap after it is passed around the tongue-bar of the buckle.
The invention is fully illustrated in the accompanyiug drawings, in Which- Figure 1 represents a view of the reverse side of a strap with my device applied thereto, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal sectional view of the same.
In the drawings, A designates a strap, to' which is attached the buckle B. A metallic plate, C, is bent slightly at a and provided with two or more rivet-holes, by means of which and suitable rivets ,it is attached to the 4o under side of the strap. A portion of this plate'Goverlaps and protects the folded end of the strap in such a manner as to securely fasten the buckle thereto. A rivet passes through the two thicknesses of the strap and the plate and is there clinched in the usual manner.
In arecessl between the folded end of the strap and the bent portion of the metallic plate C strap-retaining loops vD are secured.' This 5o space or recess is of sufficient size to allow each of the loops an independent and free movement.
It is manifest that my device will protectk the folded end ofthe strap and attach the re 55 taining-loops securely to the same, and at the same time will provide a durable fastening for the buckle. f
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters 6o Patent, is-
The combination, with a strap and buckle, yf a metallic plate bent transversely about midway its length, as shown, and provided with rivetholes near each end, by means of which and rivets it is secured to the strap so that a portion of its length will overlap and protect the folded end of the same and securely attach the buckle thereto, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
EMME'IT Cl GRANT.
