No. 643,470 Int. Cl. F21v 33/00 U.S. Cl. 240-6.4 4 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cosmetic stick holder integrally formed with a lighting means. The holder includes a casing having an open end and a closed bottom end portion. A cosmetic stick is movably mounted at the open end of the casing and may either project from or be retracted into the open end thereor. A detachable closing cap member is removably mounted over the open end of the casing. A battery is mounted within the closed end portion of the casing and a light bulb is located between the cosmetic stick and the battery within the casing. A transparent member is located between the cosmetic stick and the inside of the casing to permit light to pass between the cosmetic stick and the inside of the casing when the light bulb is turned on. A switching means is mounted on the holder to close an electrical circuit between the battery means and the light bulb to turn on the light bulb and cause light to be admitted through the transparent member. A feature of the invention requires that the transparent member comprise a sleeve member which completely surrounds the cosmetic stick within the casing. A further feature of'the invention includes a spring located at the bottom of an insulated pot-shaped container which receives the battery. A more specific feature of this invention requires a switching means to include a tripping pin that is located on the inner side of the bottom of the closing cap member which lits over the open end of the casing. This tripping pin is insertable through registered holes located in the end faces of the bottom end portion of the casing and the insulated potshaped container. When the tripping pin is placed through the end face holes and touches the bottom of the battery, the electrical circuit is closed between the light bulb and the battery and the light bulb is turned on.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Cosmetic sticks with lighting means, which are movably mounted within a sleeve-like holder, are already known. It is further known to combine a cosmetic stick holder with a light source so as to enable the use of the cosmetic stick with the aid of a mirror even in the dark. A casing has at its closed end a torch and at the other end the turnable cosmetic stick provided with a closing cap. A light bulb is mounted in the central portion of the casing in such a manner that its light passed through a sleeve of transparent platsics material around the cosmetic stick.

For switching the light bulb of the cosmetic stick several proposals have been made. For example switching buttons, push buttons, jumper rings and sliding switches have been arranged on the casing of the cosmetic stick, which project and require expensive constructions and the service life of which is limited.

These disadvantages shall be avoided by the present invention in which the closing cap of the casing, which is to be removed when the cosmetic stick is being used, serves as a switching means. The cap when taken off can be lost but now, by fitting it on to the other end of the casing for switching on the illumination, it cannot be lost anymore.

Patented Sept. 15, 1970 ICC SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION According to the invention a cosmetic stick holder with lighting means comprises a casing having a closed end constituted by an end bottom, a torch battery at said closed end of said casing, a closing cap provided on the other end of said casing, a cosmetic stick adapted to be turned out at said other end of said casing, a light bulb associated with said torch battery and disposed in the central portion of said casing, a sleeve of transparent synthetic plastic material permitting light emitted from said light bulb to pass through the sleeve around said cosmetic stick, a tripping pin constructed as a switching means for the circuit of said light bulb and provided on the inner side of the bottom of said closing cap, and an insulated pot-shaped container accommodating said torch battery, said pot-shaped container and said end bottom of said casing having in their end faces holes for the passage therethrough of said tripping pin for closing the circuit between said battery and said casing upon fitting said closing cap on to the closed end of said casing adjacent said b-attery.

Furthermore, a helical spring known per se may be arranged between the lower end face of the battery and the bottom of the insulated pot-shaped container, at least one portion of which spring touches the hole for the tripping BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS One embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:

FIG. 1 is a longitudinal section through a cosmetic stick holder according to the invention;

FIG. 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal section through the cosmetic stick holder, showing the use of the cap as a switching means, and

FIG. 3 is a section on the line III-III of FIG. 2.

DESCRIPTION OF SPECIFIC EMBODIMENTS With reference now to the drawing, at one end 2 of a casing 1 a cosmetic stick 3 is mounted in a holder 4 from which it can be turned out in a known manner. At the other end 5 of the casing 1 a pot-shaped container 6 consisting of electrically insulating plastics material is inserted which is held in the end 5 of the casing by an end bottom 7. Mounted in the container 6 is a torch battery 8 which is directly connected to a light bulb 10 by means of a pole 9. The light bulb 10 is fastened in the casing 1 at a bearing 11. Its light passes thorugh a transparent sleeve 12 and leaves the end face 13 thereof as a light ring.

A cap 14 closes the end 2 of the casing 1. The cap 14 has on its inner side a tripping pin 15. The end bottom 7 has a hole 16 and the container 6 has a hole 17 in its bottom. Both holes 16 and 17 serve to pass the tripping pin 15 therethrough when the cap 14 is fitted on to the end 5 of the casing. The cap 14 then is in the position 141 as shown in FIG. 2. In this position the circuit of the battery is closed and the light bulb 10 emits light. A helical spring 18 may be interposed between the bottom of the battery and the bottom of the container 6. The tripping pin 15 either closes the circuit directly with the bottom of the battery or through the helical spring 18.

By using the cap 14 as a switching means it is at the same time achieved that the cap 14 cannot be misplaced or get lost after removal.

The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. The present embodiment is therefore to be considered in al1 respects as illustrative and not restrictive.

' 3 I claim: 1. A cosmetic stick holder integrally formed with a lighting means comprising:

(a) a casing having an open end and a closed bottom end portion,

(b) means mounting a cosmetic stick in the casing to effect projection from and retraction into said open end thereof,

(c) a detachable closing cap member removably mounted over the open end of the casing,

(d) a battery mounting means including an insulated pot-shaped container located in the closed end portion and having a depression to receive a battery within said closed end portion of the casing,

(e) means mounting a light bulb between the cosmetic stick and the battery, said light bulb having contact wtih the battery,

(f) a transparent plastic sleeve member which completely surrounds the cosmetic stick within the casing to permit light to pass between the cosmetic stick and the inside of the casing when the light bulb is turned on,

(g) a switching means including a tripping pin located on the inner side of the bottom of the closing cap member,

(h) said pot-shaped container and said bottom end portion include end faces having registered holes which are large enough to accept the tripping pin located in the detachable closing cap member, and

(i) said closing cap member having a diameter large enough to t over the bottom end portion to pass 4 the tripping pin through the end face holes to close the circuit between the light bulb and the battery.

2. A cosmetic stick holder as defined in claim 1 wheresaid sleeve member substantially lls the space between the cosmetic stick and the inside of the casing.

l 3. A cosmetic stick holder as defined in claim Z wherein said battery mounting means includes a spring located at the bottom of the depression between the battery and pot-shaped container. 4. A cosmetic stick holder as defined in claim 3 wherein said spring has a helical shape and includes at least one portion which touches the hole that receives the tripping pin.
