SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 349,859, dated September 28, 1886.
Application filed June 3, 1886. Serial No. 203,977. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that L ABRAHAM P. RINDs- KOPF, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insoles, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an adhesive insole which will protect the stocking against the wear from pegs, nails,or other inequalities on the surface of the insole of the boot or shoe, and which has its edges protected against raveling and moisture by the upturning of the lowermost layer of gutta-percha.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a bottom view of this improved insole with parts ofthe lower layer broken away. Fig. 21's a transverse section of the same on line a: a: of Fig. 1.

This improved insole is composed of two layers of textile fabric, A, a layer of gutta.
percha tissue, B, placed between said layers of textile fabric, and a lowermost or bottom layer of gutta percha tissue, B. The upper layer, B, of gutta-percha serves to unite the textile layers A, and the lowermost or bottom layer, B, of gutta-percha tissue adheres to the lower layerof textile fabric. This lower layer,
B, is provided with an unturned flap, c, which covers the outer edges of the layers above it, being cemented or otherwise fastened thereto. This upturned flap serves as a sort of selvage to the sole and protects the edges against wear andmoisture. The lowermost layer, B, being of gutta-percha tissue, renders the sole adhesive and causes it to adhere, when placed in the boot or shoe, to the insole thereof by the press ure and warmth imparted by the foot of the wearer.
Having thus described myinvention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent An insole for boots or shoes, consisting of two layers of textile fabric, an intermediate layer of gutta-percha tissue, and a lowermost or bottom layer of gutta-percha tissue, said bottom layer having an upturned flap which incloses the edges of the layers above it, being united therewith, substantially as described.
