Description

1969 A. c. ENGLISH GLOVE DISPLAY DEVICE Filed Nov. 24, 1967 j7ZZ/67ZZ07' fl/fieal GE yZaLY %m, 15AM United States Patent US. Cl. 223-85 7 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A glove support and display assembly formed of a supporting arm and a pair of rings which hold and suspend a pair of gloves on a support while enabling a prospective purchaser to try the gloves for size.
The present invention is directed to new and useful improvements in displays for wearing gloves.
The major purposes of the present invention are to form a support for gloves in such a manner that a glove or a pair of gloves may be easily supported in a position such that a prospective buyer can easily view both palm and back Sides of the glove and at the same time enable the prospective purchaser to try the glove or gloves on his hand in order to check the fit of the gloves, all without interference from the holding assembly for the gloves and without necessarily removing the glove or gloves from a main supporting and displaying member, these and other purposes being more apparent in the course of the ensuing specification and claims, when taken with the accompanying drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front view of the invention illustrating use of the invention with a pair of gloves and as a part of a display of plural pairs of gloves on an upright supporting member;
FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of the glove supporting and fastening device illustrated in FIGURE 1;
FIGURE 3 is a side sectional view of the invention as illustrated in FIGURE 1; and
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged sectional view of a portion of the glove supporting and fastening device.
Like elements are designated by like characters throughout the specification and drawings.
With specific reference now to the drawings, and in the first instance to FIGURE 1, numeral represents an upstanding support which may take any one of a number of forms. It may, for example, be a peg board style and of a size such that it may rest upon a counter while permitting the display of a relatively large number of gloves thereon. A conventional hook 11 is fixed on the support for purposes of supporting a pair of gloves 12 and 13 therefrom through use of the present invention.
The support for the gloves is defined by an elongated arm 14 having a pair of ring members 15 and 16 fixed at one end portion thereof. Each of the ring members 15 and 16 has sizes such that they extend around the palm of a glove in the manner illustrated while having a sufficiently loose fit with the palm of the glove as to enable expansion of the glove from a wholly flat condition to a position similar to that when the human hand is extended within the glove.
The upper end of the arm 14 carries support means for supporting the cuff ends of the gloves and support means for suspending the arm and gloves from the hook 11. For example, an eye which may be of plastic, metallic, or cloth form is fixed on the upper end of the arm 14 as at 17 so that the arm may be suspended from the hook 11. The supporting means for the cuff ends of the gloves are in the form of clips 18 and 19 which are positioned beneath the eyelet 17. The clips 18 and 19 may take the form of small deformable metal sheets or tabs which are fixed to arm 14 and which may be bent over the cuff of a glove so as to press the cuff against arm 14 and hold the cuff in this position. As an alternative, the supports 18 and 19 may take the form of pieces of cloth which overlie the cuff ends of the gloves and which are then stapled to the arm 14.
The rings 15 and 16 are spaced from the upper support means 18 and 19 by a distance generally equal to the distance between the cuff end of a glove and the material at the junction of the inner part of the thumb portion and index finger portion of a glove so that when gloves are supported, as illustrated in the drawings, the thumb portions 20 of the gloves overlie the rings. The gloves are thus neatly suspended between eyelet 17 and hook 11 while the gloves are secured at their cuff ends 21 and by the rings 15 and 16 embracing the gloves at the palm portions of the gloves. While so suspended, a prospective purchaser may insert his hand within the gloves in order to check on the fit of the gloves without removing the gloves from the display 10.
The arm 14 and rings 15 and 16 may be formed from a variety of materials. They may be formed from cloth materials of sufficient strength to support the gloves. On the other hand, the arm 14 and rings 15 and 16 may be formed from sheet metal or from some sheet plastic material.
Glove supports as defined herein are sufficiently inexpensive that they may be left with the gloves when gloves are sold; and the purchaser of the gloves may easily dislodge the support from the gloves by unfastening the holding clips and removing the gloves from the holding rings.
If the desired, the user of glove supports of the type herein described may print advertising matter or identifying and price information on the supporting arm and rings for the gloves.
It should be noted that the support overlies only a small portion of the palm of a glove so that substantially all of one side of the glove may be observed by a prospective purchaser.
Whereas I have shown and described an operative form of the invention, it should be understood that this showing and description thereof should be taken in an illustrative or diagrammatic sense only. There are modifications to the invention which will fall within the scope and spirit thereof and which will be apparent to those skilled in the art. The scope of the invention should be measured only by the scope of the hereinafter appended claims.
I claim:
1. A glove supporting display assembly including an elongated arm and spaced glove supporting means on said arm, a glove positioned alongside said arm, the supporting means at one portion of said arm being comprised of a ring of material, said ring extending around the palm and back of said glove, and between the thumb portion and index finger portion of said glove, the supporting means at the other portion of said arm including means for holding the cuff of said glove and means for hanging said arm from a display type of support, said ring being spaced from said other supporting means by a distance on the order of the distance between the cuff end of said glove and the inner part of the glove material between the thumb portion and index finger portion of said glove, whereby said glove may be supported by said other supporting means and held by said ring.
2. The structure of claim 1 wherein said other supporting means includes clip means formed and adapted to overlie and secure the cuff portion of a glove held by said assembly.
3. The structure of claim 1 wherein said arm and ring are formed from flexible material.
4. The structure of claim 1 wherein identical rings as recited in claim 1 are carried at said portion of said arm.
5. The structure of claim 1 wherein substantially identical rings are carried by said arm at the lower end of said arm and said other supporting means is at the upper end of said arm and includes a pair of clip means formed and adapted to secure the cuff ends of a pair of gloves held by said assembly to said arm.
6. The structure of claim 1 characterized by and including a supporting eyelet at the other end of said arm.
7. A glove supporting display assembly including an elongated arm and spaced glove supporting means on said arm, the supporting means at one portion of said arm being comprised of a ring of flexible material, said ring being sized and proportioned =to fit around the palm of a glove with which the assembly is used, the supporting means at the other portion of said arm including means for hanging said arm from a display type of support and means for securing the cuflE portion of said glove to said 4 arm, said ring being spaced from said other supporting means by a distance on the order of the distance between the cutf end of said glove and the inner part of the glove material between the thumb portion and index finger portion of said glove, whereby a glove held by said assembly may be supported by said other supporting means and held by said ring embracing said glove around the back of said glove and across the palm of said glove and between the thumb portion and index finger portion of said glove.
