lle it known that l, JOHN' A. Pni'r'rarr, of the city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Counters and Indicators for Games, itc., of which the following is a speeilieation.

The object of this invention is to keep aeconnt in playing games of different characters, and to give an alarm or indication at the completion ofthe revolution ofthe counter, orend ofthe gaine. In apparatus that has heretofore been eonstrueted having this object in view the base has been hollow and contained the bell.

My improvement is 'for simplifying the apparatus and for lessening the cost.

I make use of a base supporting a Central standard and a bell, and within the bell is a spring-hammersupported by the standarihand this standard forms a center around which a shield having an opening therein is revolved progressively. The dial or counter is upon the top of the base, and there is a scroll-cam upon the surface ofthe shield, and this scrolleam aets against the hamn'ier-tail to draw acl; the hammer, and the hammer-#tail slips off the end of the scroll when the highest figure on the dial is visible through the perforated shield, thereby indicating the completion of the revolution.

In the drawings, Figure l is a vertical seetion of the apparatus, and Fig. 2 is a plan with the bell removed.

rlhe base A is preferably of wood, but may be of any suitable material, into which is screwed the lower end ofthe standard B, and to the liep of this standard the hell C is fastened. riho hammer F is within the hell, and it is connected to the standard, preferably by a folded. spring, G, so that the hammer may be drawn away from the bell and the spring handle thereof compressed, so that the blow will be given by the action of the spring when the hammer-tail is liberated.

Upon the upper surface of the base A a dial or counter is provided, the same being formed of a circular range of numbers, letters, or characters, and this dial is fastened to the base, and the shield L is made with an opening to expose one number at a time as such shield. is revolved progressively by the handle G. The standard B passes through the shield and forms a center around which the shield is revolved, and the upper surface of the base A is preferably recessed for the reception ofthe dial and the shield.

Upon the surface of the shield is a scrolleam, l), preferably made of a piece of wire, the inner end of which is firmly attached to the shield, and there is a tail projecting downwardly from the hammer and passing within the scroll-cam, so that as the shield is revolved the scroll-earn draws thehammer-tail and hammer away Afrom the bell, and the parts are placed so that as the last figure in the dial is exposed by the revolution of the shield the hammer-tail slips off the inner end of the scroll or cam and the spring` causes the hammer to strike the bell.

If the outerportion of the wire forming the scroll-cam is left free from the shield, it can aet as a spring to throw the hammer out of contact with the bell to allow the latter to vibrate freely.

I claim as my invention- 1. The combination, with the base, standard, and bell, of a hammer supported by the standard, a dial upon the top of the base, a shield over the dial with an opening, and a seroll or cam upon the shield acting upon the hammer-tail to draw back the same before striking the bell, substantially as set forth,

2. rlhe Combination, with the base, stand ard, and bell, of a hammer, a spring attached at one end to the standard and at the other end to the hammer, a shield-plate adapted to be revolved around the standard, and a scroll or cam upon such shield, substantially as set forth.

3. The combination, with thestandard, bell, and hammer, of a shield-plate revolved around the standard, and a scroll or cam formed of a wire attached at one end to the shield-plate and acting against the hammer-tail, substantially as set forth.
