CHARLES R. SEARLEY, OF
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
OVERALLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application filed March 22, 18%.
Patent No. 346,691, dated August 3, 1886.
Serial No. 196,096. (No model.)
To all whom it'may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES R. SEAItLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overalls, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in overalls, and is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Y Figure 1 is a front view of the improved overalls. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a back view.
The overalls consist of the usual parts waist part and legs-out in the wellknown way, and these are reenforced by an outer thickness cut to a peculiar shape and stitched to the said usual parts, as hereinafter described.
The letter A designates the waist part; B, the legs; 0, the fly; D, the seat, and e the usual front pockets. An outer thickness of material is stitchedat f vertically at each side of the fly-opening, and a narrow portion, 9, of the usual front up and down each side of the flyopening, between the said opening and the vertical rowfof stitches, is left of single thick ness. Thereby the fly and parts adjacent have no more than the usual thickness, and the liy may be buttoned and unbuttoned with the usual facility. A second vertical row of stitches, h, and a crossrow, t, form special pockets, K, outside of and below the usual pockets, 6. Thus the overalls may have four pockets at the front. The re-enforcing material is joined to the garment at the crotch Z, and extends across the crotch at m,just below the uniting parts of the fly. From the crotch Z the re-enforce extends down the inside of the leg a short distance, where it formsa point, a,
from which the lower ed e 0 across the le o front describes an tip-curve. From the top of each of the two special pockets K, at the front, the upper edge, p, of the re-enforce extends straight across the back of the waist part A, and covers the entire seat D of the garment. From the point a on the inside of the leg the lower edge, q, across the leg-back, describes an up-curve. By a row of stitches, 0', two hippockets, 8, are formed between the re-enforce material and outside of the garment. This special construction of re-ent'orce about the waist part, legs, and crotch, as described, gives strength to the garment where it is most required, and leaves the legs below the crotch composed wholly of a single thickness of fabllC.
Having described myinvention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States Overalls having a waist part and legs out and made in the usual manner, and provided on the outside with a re-enforce which extends straight across the back at p and covers the entire seat D, isjoined to the garment at the crotch l, and therefrom extends down the inside of the leg a short distance, where it forms a point, a, from which the lower edge, q, describes an upcurve across the legback and covers the waistt'ront, except a narrow portion, 9, up and down each side of the tly-opening, just below which it crosses, as at m, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES R. SEARLEY.
