UNITED "STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARTIN SOHAARE, OF NEYV YORK, N. Y.
TOY KITCHEN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 344,992, dated July 6, 1886.
Application filed February 1, 1886. Serial No. 190,462. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN ScHAAmna citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Kitchens; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain novel and useful improvements in toy kitchens, and has for its object to greatly eheapen the manufacture of devices of this description, and also to produce a stronger and more serviceable toy and with these ends in view myinvention consists in the detailsof construction and combination of elements hereinafter fully explained, and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may more fully understand its construction and adaptation, I will proceed to describe the same in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank preparatory to bending into the desired shape, and Fig. 2 a perspective showing the completed article.
Similar letters denote like parts in both figarcs of the drawings.
A is the back wall, and Bare the side walls, of the kitchen.
0 are the racks for the kitchen utensils, plates, forks, &c., said racks being formed integral with the upper edges of the back and side walls. The spaces or pockets D in said racks may be of any desirable shape, so as to be adapted for various articles.
E is the chimney, soldered or secured by beading, or attached in any suitable way to the back wall and racks, the latter being cut away so as to admit the chimney.
In the manufacture. of my improvement I blank the walls and racks integral from sheet. tin or any other material, as shown at Fig. l- The blank is essentially a parallelogram in shape, with one sideand the two ends thereof straight as to their edges. The remaining side has notches ent in its edge, asshown at Fig. 1, so that the corners may, when folded, as herein specified, make close joints, and so that the chimney may be accurately fitted, as
shown at Fig. 2. Theblank so formed is then bent into shape at the dotted lines, the ends of the racks of the back and side walls meeting at a miter-joint. The pocketsD will thus be brought into the desired location, and the chimney E is then secured in position within the opening F.
Prior to my invention various styles of toys of this kind have been made,-but in all ofthem the racks for the dishes and other analogous articles have been secured to the walls by soldering, and consequently they invariably become loosened and break off, thereby necessitating re-soldering, and this is a matter of considerable annoyance and expense, when the trival cost of these toys is takeninto consideration. v 1
My improvement has the advantage of exceeding cheapness in manufacture and of great durability. 7
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 4 Y The blank for the manufacture of toy kitchens, having in its upper edge notches and tongues, and provided with slots in said tongues, whereby racks are afforded for the dishes and utensils, said tongues and the ends of the blank adapted to be bent at an angle,
whereby when properly joined the structure will be complete, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARTIN SGHAARE. WVitnesses:
LUDWIG Roos, IVIIOH. MAGYAR.
