UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES C. T. WILLSON, OF ALTOONA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF TWO- THIRDS TO WILLIAM K. CARR, OF SAME PLACE.
DRAW- BAR PIN AN D FASTEN ER. 7
SPECIFICATION forming part. of Letters Patent No. 343,653, dated June 15, 1886.
Application filed April 23. 1986. Serial No.199,9l4. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES C. T. WILL- sON, ofAltoona, in the county of Blair and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draw-Bar Pin and Fastener; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will eua ble others skilled in the art to which it apper- IO tainsto make and use the samo, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to let ters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My present invention has for its object to I5 provide an improved draw-bar pin and means of fastening the same, whereby the operation of applying the drawbar in position upon the truck-frame or its removal therefrom may be greatly facilitated and accomplished in the simplest and best possible manner; and my improvements consist, essentially, in the details of construction and general arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 rep resents a perspective view of my complete invention; Fig. 2, atop plan view thereof, and Figs. 3 and 4 detail perspective views.
Similar letters of reference indicate like 0 parts in the several figures.
It may be observed that draw-bar pins have heretofore been secured in position by means ofa key or nut, which not unfrequently rust tight and cause the loss ofmuch time and labor 3 5 to remove.
In carrying out my improvements the sides of the draw-bar pin A, near its rear end, are formed or provided with notches or recesses a, which are adapted to fit within a correspond- 0 ingly-shaped vertical socket, b, in the center ofa metallic block, B, as shown. Upon the upper end of said block B are provided pins cone on each side of the vertical recess or socket b-said pins being provided with central vertical openings, 0, for the reception therein 0f cotter-keys d, as fully shown in the drawings.
D represents a face-plate having a central opening, 0, ofa size sufficient to allow of its being readily slipped over the circumference 5' l of the pin A, and is also provided near its up per end with openings g-one on each sidc for the reception of the pins 0 upon the block B. I
In the operation of my invention the draw- 5 bar pin A, when adjusted in its usual position, is locked in place by means of the metallic block B, being first adjusted in place within the grooves a, the faceplate D then pushed up against said block B, the pins 0 ofwhich enter 6:) the openings gin the face-plate, and the parts locked together by the insertion of the cotter or split keys (I.
It will be apparent without a more minute description that the application ofthe draw-bar pin in its proper position or of its removal therefrom may be accomplished in the very shortest time possible, and that the full strength of the draw-bar pin is secured by reason that I the central slot or opening usually required, and which tends to weaken the pin at that point, is dispensed within the present construetion.
Having thus described my invention,Iclai1n as new and useful 1. A drawbar pin and fastener consisting of the pin A, formed with notches a, the block B, formed with vertical socket b and pins 0, the faceplate D, having central opening, e, and small openings 9, and thekeys d, substan- 8o tially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The draw-bar pin A, provided with the notches a, in combination with the block 13, having vertical socket b and pins 0, the faceplate l), having central opening, 6, and openings g and keys (1, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my-own I my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES C. T. WILLSON.
